I've been looking to do something else with my dirty sock besides... wait.
Have you used the channel lock method? That's what I've used with great success. I might get myself a vice and give it a whirl.

This is a great visual guide! It took me forever to figure it out based on the variety of descriptions I read.
I tried a simple pair of vice grips for the tricky Gung Ho torso since it seems all the carded ones have reversed biceps. They open wide enough and are a great option if you can't mount a vice anywhere. and the shape hugs the shoulders pretty well. There are teeth, so I'm glad I read about the sock on here. I'd try a few layers of tape or rubber bands around the figure or grip surfaces to be sure to avoid damage, then squeeze right where the image shows, except now since you know where to do it, you can place it deeper in the sock to keep the parts from soaring away. I hope this thread keeps a lot of people from banging away like a drunk chimp like I did with Hasbro's chestnut/wood block method. I truly sucked at that. |

The block thing was a waste of time and i couldn't spare anymore cut fingers trying to get them open with a knife, especially when the glue is all piled up outside the seam. Cracking the torso seemed like the best way.

Well, so far I tried 2 figs using this method. The first one worked great(Desert Crimson Guard). The second I tried a female to see what happened to let ninjapleazee know the outcome, and I too was wondering. The Scarlett didn't completely pop, more like it was starting to pop and then decided to start breaking a little. The top of the back of the torso started to bend a little because the torso didn't completely pop appart. Will have to try again maybe lower on the torso/arms to see if it will pop loose.

I remember when I first used a sock. It's true, no sock, mess all over.
haven't tried it with an action figure yet, but this does look much easier than some of the ways people have been trying. |

Ha, the wood block was horrible. For whatever reason the first time I tried it, it worked great but every time after that was a disaster. I've been using the sock and plumbers pliers for a couple months now and it works great. It works so well that most of the figures I've cracked don't even need glue to stay together when finished.

I have to try it this way I remember GI Eddie making mention of this as well and it seems to be the absolute best method out there
