A sock and a set of channel locks works almost everytime and when that fails, the table vise can handle the most stubborn torsos.
I think it was Asphalt who recommended nuking the torso in the microwave to loosen the glue. Yup, here's his Crack-a-Joe Tutorial. |

I'm going to buy a Dremel tomorrow and was curious if this kind of vise/clamp will work just as well? Wanted to see if I could save a few bucks if it would.

Now I just basically crushed rescue mission SE, his torso wouldn't crack. I even put him in the oven first. I'm having no luck with this for some reason.
Edit: Okay, he just cracked but his shoulders/arms are pretty smashed now Last edited by JohnnyAngel77; 02-03-2010 at 05:48 PM.. |

I use a vice as well, but I remove the legs, and usually head first. As long as you go slow with the tightening and listen for the pop, it works great.
Sometime it might pop and not completely separate and then that happens I just pry the torso halves apart with a flat head screwdriver. And if by some freak accident some of the vice's crosshatching gets through the layers of wrapped fabric and onto a arm, usually a hot blow dryer will relaxes the plastic back to it's regular shape.

related problem, but different: What do I do when after spending all afternoon cracking chests and then the arm pegs don't fit the newly swapped chest cavities!?!?!

You could also try to dremmel/sand/shave out the hole where the arm pegs fits fit that it the problem, but that seems to be rare and you will need to be very careful Every time I used the Desert Ambush Duke arms on a Desert Ambush Scarlett torso I had to shave the disk and peg down just a little to make them fit. Usually though the problem seems to be the disk at the end of the arm peg is too big (shave/sand it down) or the shoulder does not want to fit into the torso socket (sand it down)
