I noticed that for some characters the ball neck joint is just sitting far too low depending on the intended head swap. Anyone got any ideas how to remedy this?

If the ballneck is short, I will shave off the top of the existing ball, just enough to have a flat surface to glue to. I then remove the neck ball from a fodder figure and prep the bottom to be flat for gluing to the existing neck ball. Some people will also put a small rod (think part of a paper clip) in there as well to strengthen it. I have had a few snap off in the head but that was usually because I was impatient and didn't get it enough time to dry. The last 4 or 5 I have done are working great.
in some cases it ended up with a neck too long so I had to redo it. It can be hard to guage how much to add. Good luck! |

Or a simpler way to do this without tearing up figures is to lube the neck ball with some vaseline and put some hot glue or green stuff inside the head you want to use and set it at the point you want on the neck. Once it hardens trim away the excess. Now the head has been adjusted to fit the neck instead of the neck adjusted to fit the head.

Hot glue glun to the inside of the neck hole, as desired once dried and hardened to get proper head-to-shoulder ratio.

In some cases, the neck is just too short for hot glue. In this case, cut the ball off the neck at the base of the ball. Center tap the neck and then ball. find a dow (rod) about half the diameter of the neck and ball, cut to length. Drill hole in neck and ball, about an 1/8th of an inch or less, just enough for the dow to sit in and make a mechanical connection to the parts. assemble without glue and test fit the length of the rod, trim if needed. Superglue the rod to the neck and then the ball, let it sit over night unless you use a kicker to speed up hardening. Use epoxy like Aves or Greenstuff to build up the new neck. this will help reenforce the neck. Let this harden. Now put the head on the new neck.
I know this is alot of work, but the results are the best for long term use and less chances of the neck breaking during possitioning of the head.
