dude, again, i offer my services for advice.
i am active duty navy on the USS Nimitz, and i was also onboard the USS John C. Stennis from 01 to 05. (yeah before transformers lol they blew it up in the start of the film, called it the roosavelt then it was back at the end hahaha look for the 74... anyway...) this project is friggin AWESOME. i would love to help however possible. for instance you called them "viewing galleries". those are actually sponsons for either refuelling at sea (for the jets, not the nuke powered carrier lol) or there are a couple that have small boats hoisted up in them. these are boats used for rescue of man overboard, or boarding parties. seriously, hit me up on PM with ANY and ALL questions. i want to help you make this thing super-accurate! so far, so good!

Yeah and his is uber-accurate. I really wish I had the patience for 100% authenticity. I also wish I had the space for a 60 footer! Those plans will have to wait until I have the room and the money for steel.
Yes, I do have plans for a 60 foot steel ship that looks like an aircraft carrier. Complete with a Chevy 350, two screws, berthing, galley, and big screen TV below decks. It's the ultimate RC pilot's dream. *Sigh* Someday...

Well, I know that I thought I would get an update this week, but things got really busy around the middle of the week and I'm out of town this weekend. I did get some cursory painting done, but nothing to speak of that was really impressive. I should have nothing going on next week and hopefully, progress will get back up to speed. Thanks for your patience with me on this project...

I've been lurking on this thread for months. I don't post much, but I wanted to say that this thing is really impressive, and I hope you're having as much fun building this thing as I am having reading this thread.
Zoomie, you mentioned you were in the Air Force, I was too, what did you do? Also, have you ever thought about using the old Storm Eagle as a stand in for the new JSF (F-35)? It's obviously not an exact match, but it's not too bad. I use them on my Flagg (among other planes) because the actually fit on the elevator. Anyway looking great. |

Loving this one. I can't wait to see this thing finished! Please don't give up EVER on this. The FLAGG is a hard thing to come by, and if you have to build your own then more power to you. At least you can say you have something no one ANYWHERE has...a FLAGG all your own.

Zoomie,
haven't seen any pics in a log time... you didn't get drunk and fall over into "our" project, did you? I had this crazy pipedream that you finished this beast, then took a skystriker and mounted brass hooks to the top of it's body, and built a thin wire zip-line from wall to wall in the carrier room such that you could hook the SS to the line and with a little push it would zip down to a perfect arrestor hook landing. If you could indulge this pipe dream when you're done and make a video of it for us, I would be more than happy to pay for the gear to rig it up Second pipe dream- the Osprey. Have you given these any thought? There was a guy on here from Italy that said he had a bunch of the Chap Mei ones for sale, but he was never able to produce a picture of them and wanted to sell them outside of the normal protective services we use in buying our toys... Have you (or anyone) dealt with this guy that could vouch for him? I hate to stereotype, but damn if I haven't seen a dozen scams come out of Italy... |
