Yeah, I know it's not technically day 37 (and I may have already used day 37) but bear with me. I finally got to gluing the bridge together. The parts were a little rough, but with some persuasion, they fit pretty well and I'm sure will provide the look I'm going for.
It looks even better with the divider pieces in between the struts. They fit surprisingly well. Continued...

Here's some more pictures.
You can almost see the consoles and the captain's chair. As a side note, since I kinda forgot to cut the upper floor long enough, I had to extend it another two inches the create the overhang look I want. I don't feel like cutting another piece of foam unless I absolutely have to and if it looks okay when it's together, then we'll leave it. If not, you know... But I did the upper struts a lot different. They are more solid. I don't think it will necessarily look out of place, since this deck serves a different purpose than the one below. And it'll structurally help the front end of the island. We'll see how it looks.

I'm kinda getting a little tired of the extortion involved in buying replacement parts for GI Joe vehicles. Unfortunately, there are no conpanies making new replacement parts (not enough market) which leads to cannibalism (and making parts even more rare), so I either have to pay $25 for a canopy on-line, or find a different way of getting one. I have the phone number of a guy nearby who might have some various and sundry parts. According to his business partner, he's got buckets full of parts in the back of the store.
Obviously, there's no point in having an aircraft carrier without aircraft. I bought a couple more incomplete skystrikers on-line in the last few days, so now begins the hunt for parts. That'll bring my skystriker tally up to 4, almost half of a full striker squadron. But, like I said before, not real life, so I don't need the full compliment of 10-12 fighters. Although, it would be nice... I also thought about this. Maybe I can cast my own canopy out of clear resin from an RTV mold. I've done this sort of process before, so it's not completely unfamiliar territory. Alumilite carries over a dozen different resins and almost the same amount of RTVs. Rigging up a vaccum box wouldn't be that difficult either. The canopies won't be completely without bubbles, but it doesn't have to be perfect, I guess. We do best with what we have... I thought about vacuuforming, but I'm afraid the caopy might be a little thin. Thermoplastics aren't very reactive the thicker they get. Still, I may want to try one to see what it looks like. Maybe it'll work. And being light might help it stay up easier for dioramas. Lots of options here, and I'm gonna have to pick one if I'm gonna get done by mid-august. JoeCon is approaching and I don't have a completed enough model to show to the convention organizers. Hopefully they have the room to allow me to display it.

I knida knew from the start that the island would take the longest to create. While I had a plan, I wasn't really sure how well the foam would respond to more precise cuts. It has reacted admirably, but I also have to move much slower. Thus the slow progress through this part of the ship.
I decided to alter my original upper struts. Since this is going to be the ATC tower, the visibility might be an issue (not literally). I decided to make them more sleek-looking. Here's a progression of what they looked like as I altered them. And after I put them on. And with the top on it. I also added some extenders on top to give the top of the island more height. Not sure if it's necessary, but I will cover it with .015 polystyrene when the time comes. We get back to work tomorrow.

Not that much. I've been sandbagging it lately with the Bimmer and the Mustang taking up so much time. But now, we have a new deadline. And it's actually closer than you think...
