I think that the ROC camo was blue in the movie. But I am not sure on what the hell pattern they were shooting for there. That pattern was about as ridiculous as the US Navy's new digital blue cammies.

Hey, thanks for the help!
I'm not entirely sure I've even seen your camo, but I went out and bought the same brushes you recommended based on your knowledge alone. Untik recently, I haven't done any painting since I did some models and stuff 10 years ago or so. I've been having trouble lately doing tiny details, like eyes, even though I bought a couple of tiny brushes, even though I remember painting pupils and freckles on RPG miniatures. Seeing these brushes made me realize why! Lately I bought tiny brushes with very short bristles. I used to have ones like this, and you need the length of the bristles so that they can come to a fne point, which brings me to one more thing. I'v got to reemphasize your point on the importance of thinning the paint. It goes on smoother, and is essential for stuff like eyes and even pointed tiger striped camo. No matter how thin the brush, thicker paint will give you a little ball of color at the tip of the brush, wasting the entire purpose of the thin brush. Thanks again, I'm sure this helped a lot of people so far. |

Bit o' trivia. Authentic ninja, when they did wear their shinobifuku (ninja uniforms/outfits) they never (according to all historical evidence) wore black. Their uniforms were often the color of whatever was predominant in the landscape their mission took place in, and was often reversible to accomodate different environments.
Sorry, I can't resist any opportunity for an installment of Ninja Trivia, but all in all that's a REALLY good how-to. I NEVER KNEW YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO USE PRIMER! No wonder the friggin' paint never sticks when I try it! Damn! But... now I know. For Ninja Uniforms they usually wear a dark purple with a glance of red . Coz it matches the color of the night. red and purple are undetectable in the dark. Since shadows are of that color scheme. |

I'm holding off on any movie camo until I get the DVD. I have the Mission Dossier book and the camo looks gray in that. Of course all the toys are in blue, so I will probably stick with that regardless. I doubt I'll add the little GI Joe logo that's on there though. That's a pretty lame addition. I think they were going for more of a strictly garrison uniform than an actual BDU though.

Has anybody ever tried "stamping" out camo patterns on their figures? I know most people hand paint camo patterns, and I've done this in the past, and it turned out rather well, but I've been thinking about using little pieces of either a firm sponge or maybe cutting a pattern into something rubbery, like the eraser on a pencil, to see what kind of effect that would have.
If anybody has successfully done this, I'd be very interested in knowing what specific techniques you used, and how it turned out.
