Skimmed through these, but didn't see anything about casting articulated body parts. I realize that you need to individually cast each peg, joint, limb, etc, but looking for any tips.
And translucent plastic...

What I like to do first is make a mold of the complete part with the joint still attached. Once the mold is done, I carefully cut the joint out and make a mold of that joint. Once the joint is cast, I give it a healthy dose of mold release and place it in the mold of the complete part, making sure the joint matches up with where the joint will normally fit in the part. From there, poor resin into the complete mold part. The fresh resin will surround the joint part. Place the mold in you're pressure chamber and give it about 35-40lbs of pressure in the tank. You don't have to use that much, but I like to give it a little extra pressure. Let the resin set and cure and once you remove the completed part, trim away any excess and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.

So you make a mold of the full joint (let's say a forearm with an elbow swivel peg), fully intact. Then carefully cut out the swivel and mold/cast that. Then put the molded swivel in the mold of the full joint, cast the forearm (which will come out missing the swivel).
That sound right?

Let me see if I can explain this:
Lets say you want to cast the lower arm with elbow articulation.
You would take and leave the joint in the arm, mold the arm and joint as one part.
After you cut the arm out of the mold, you then cut the joint it self out of the arm. You will destroy the original, but if you do all of this right it wont matter.
You then take an mold just the joint.
Once this is done, you make copys of your new joint. You then take the joint, and insert it into the mold the same way its lined up in your mold. Spray the joint before you place it in the mold and again while in the mold, dont worry about over spray of the mold release it wont hurt anything. Then once the joint is in place, you then pour or inject your plastic in the mold. The plastic will not stick to the joint do to the release.
when your done you will have a plastic on plastic arm that works.
However this is not 100% perfect, and why this method doesnt work for mass producing arms. somethimes it will stick and you will just have a big chunk of plastic that will not move.
If I can find the time after we set up in our new studio, I will take some pics of the process, also in August and we have our Con, we plan to show folks how to do mold and cast work. We will be making a video of it, for all to check out.

Thanks. What I want it for is still a ways off on my to do list, but it is a one-off project for clear legs from the hip down and clear arms from the shoulder ball down.
