So, for some time I have been looking for ways to do custom stands. It started with stands for customs, then fixing stands that they "mislabeled" due to trademark issues and now to adding names to DG Joes.
I tried doing the excel black background and white lettering on paper but wasn't happy with the results. I ordered some labels from a fellow tanker that worked great but he hasn't answered any pm's for some time so I decided to do a little research. It turns out that Brother makes White on clear background labels. Now most of their handheld units don't have enough font and size options but their PC connective ones will do any Truetype font. As you can see from the picture their is some minor pixilation when seen up close but overall I'm pretty happy with the results. Overall costs: Brother PT-1230pc for $21.99 and Brother White on Clear Tape TZe135 for $14.52; both on Amazon. With 26 ft. of tape I imagine I can create a ton of labels and I think 2 lines can be printed so I could double the amount of labels but still need to work with that. I'm always looking for ways to do this so if anyone has any other ideas or tips to improve my own please share. Settings: Arial Narrow Italics 10.9 Font size The top one in the picture below is the original Hasbro stand and the bottom one is made with the label maker.

Looks good, do u need to cut the labels? Or are they "pre - sized" already?

They are not "presized". It prints out on 1/2" wide tape. I think they might have a 3/4 inch wide as well. They cut easily with scissors or an exacto knife.

I think they look great, I like the bolder font of the the ones you printed actually. I think I made need to get me one of these. or find someone willing to print me a couple.

Out of curiosity, has anybody tried out any other/newer models of printer that have less pixelization to the font? I think what's shown in the preview is acceptable, but I'm wondering if someone has found better.
Also, is there an option for black font on clear? In the event I want to label stands that are not the usual black (such as the clear stands sold by the Club)?

Couple things:
--Wondering the same as MagicWizard. If anyone else has found any more recent or further optimally geared solutions/ more current hardware for this. --Came across this thread as the first bit of intel that popped up in the hunt to learn about stand labelling. Very cool to see it was from Atreides. He's been helping me out these past few weeks getting a bunch of holes in my collection filled and figured out. Turns out now he's gone and indirectly helped me figure out another problem. Definite props to that man. HT is lucky to have dudes like that in the community. Speaking of that, too. Another useful thread about this stuff had good practical intel from Lifeline_MD, who also gave me a hand making some things for this Doc figure I need a stand for. I dunno if that's coincidental, but it's pretty cool. --Now that I have a basic understanding of how to make the labels... I'm not sure yet if I have a sizable enough need to make the little investment for printer/supplies or not. Just for a couple, it might just be better to commission them from someone. But, it might still be good to have a set up for this, just in case. Or, if anyone else needs any made. Sure. If there's not already one of the fellas here who's designated themselves as a Stand-Printer-Help-Guy, I wouldn't be opposed at all to helping other guys out who need 'em. I'll ask around first, and figure out whether or not I'll grab a printer after that. Thanks again HT inhabitants. |
