Tips for making Zombie figures?

Hey gang,

I know I'm WA-huh-HAY too late to enter the Zombie contest, but that's not why I'm posting this.

I'm interested in making some custom zombie figures, so I wanted to ask you guys and gals for some tips and pointers on how to make good zombie figures. I assume there's much more to zombification than red paint and melting a few spots with a glue gun!

Can you give me a few tips? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

I took a few tips from The Trans Torture's Damaged Bat instructions and heated up a paper clip to make a few gun shot wounds, bite marks and melted flesh. Also heated up an exacto blade for a few fine lines. Then it was all in the paint. I put a base coat of flesh color then some washes of purple and red and finished it off with a little dry brushing of red paint to come up with this guy:

I was trying to base him off of the zombies usually found on Cannibal Corpse covers but he wound up looking more like the toxic melting guy from Robocop

The gnawed flesh parts on the arms was a combo of dremel tool and heated up paper clip

Sculpey works really well for intestines and torn flesh. Missing limbs are a good starting point then add to them with sculpey to create the gore. Props work well. a good zombie custom has some "food" maybe limbs or brains. Hope this helps. Its good to see some zombie interest even after halloween.

You can also cheat it a bit, and bash parts from the Army of Darkness line. They had both skeletal zeds, and more fleshed out juicy zeds. If nothing else they make a nice to-scale visual guide to sculpt by.

Have a zombie bite your figure. Wait a bit. Then it comes back to life.

Sculpt from inside out. Use layers - do intestine, then the fat layer above it (omentum) then skin. Press your sculpting material into sheets are tear the edges to get raggy lines.

When finished and painted, get an epoxy glue (like araldite) and mix fully. Then add a tiny touch of red acrylic paint and daub on.

This is a Sontaran from Dr Who done with battle damage
