Here's a brief Tutorial on how I made the Cobra Throne:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...m-diorama.html Depending on how you paint it and how much detail you put in it this is about an 8 beer job. Supplies: Cardboard Plaster Cloth - E-Z Form Plaster Cloth Wrap | Crafts, Etc! ® (2) Rubber Toy Snakes Graph Paper Super Glue Tacky Glue Tools: X-acto Knife Scissors 1. Cut out the base for the throne out of Cardboard. I use graph paper to cut out small things I need square. The graph paper is 1/4" per inch (4 blocks=1 in.) Cut these pieces. First draw them out on the graph paper then cut them out and tape to the cardboard then cut from the cardboard. ( If your a good measurer (is that a word) you don't need the graph paper, but I'm not so I use it. SEAT: 4"x1 3/4" Rectangle w/ 1" x 1 1/2" kickers (see the 1st pic) Score the cardboard w/ your knife where it will fold (just cut the first layer of the cardboard). 4 cuts total 2 on either side of the 1" seat and 2 where the kickers meet the rectangle. SIDE PANELS: (2) 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" Rectangles BACK: 6" x 3" Rectangle HAND RAILS: (2) 1/4" x 1 3/4" Rectangles (1x7 blocks) Fold the seat at the cuts you made and use tape to hold it together. Use the inside for most of the tape, but it's OK to put a thin layer over the outside edges (we'll cover it later anyway) Glue the side panels, back and hand rails on. We've got a throne, but Cobra Commander doesn't like sitting on just cardboard, it chafes. Now to the messy work.

2. Plaster Work
Get out your plaster cloth and a plastic cup or bowl (you don't care to throw away). Put water in the bowl. Get out some scissors (don't use the good ones.........Do people have GOOD Scissors, like does somebody have scissors they only bring out when company comes over....... I digress) Plaster Cloth is messy and while it USUALLY washes off I wouldn't use the wife's Cherry dining room table or wear my best Dockers while working with it. Cardboard has edges that are not solid. We're going to use the plaster cloth to cover those edges and to make the angles on the throne smooth. (see pics). While we're not going to cover the entire throne with plaster, we'll be close. The plaster will make the cardboard look like stone when it dries. Cut the cloth in SMALL pieces and shake as much water off as you can. put it around all edges and where the pieces meet. Smooth it out with your fingers. If you think the cardboard is getting too wet, it probably is, let that part dry and come back to it later. The goal is to make it all look smooth and have a stone like appearance. It doesn't take very long for the cloth to dry. Just let it set overnight before painting.

3. Decoration
Now that your throne doesn't really look like cardboard anymore let's add some decoration.......Today we're teaching poodles how to fly....... 3a. Seat Riser - since Cobra Commander wasn't given the gift of being able to properly sit down. I added a riser to the back of the seat. Just cut a couple of pieces of cardboard to fit the rear of the seat, glue them in then smooth them down with plaster cloth. 3b. Foot Stool - I cut a piece of balsa wood for the area below his feet but you could use cardboard too, glue it in, smooth it out w/ plaster cloth................Did you know that Turtles are nature's suction cups......... 3c. Cobra Symbol - Print out 2 Cobra Symbols to a size you desire Tape them to some cardboard cut out the outer edge on the first (this will be the base), Cut out all the little scale thingys, head and the rest on the other. I cut the outer edges where they met the head to make it easier. Take these two pieces and use the plaster cloth again to smooth out the edges. Glue them where there supposed to go on the cobra symbol base. Glue the whole thing on the throne. (You could just print out a Cobra Symbol slap it on some cardboard and go with that if you're in a time crunch........Who wants a drink from the fire hose..) 3d. Take your rubber snakes.......gently....Wash them.....I got mine at Wal Mart, I cut the tongues out as well. Cut off the heads to where they fit over the rails on the throne. Cut a groove out of the bottom of the head and slide it over the rail. Glue the heads to the rails. I also cut out some pieces of the snake and glued them to the sides of the throne. Take some plaster cloth and use it to smooth out the snake heads and make them look like a part of the throne. Finishing Lookin' Good................PRIMER IS IMPORTANT>> Prime the whole thing after letting the plaster dry for a while. The snake heads don't hold paint very well and will need to be primed about three times.......Primer is your Friend. If I had a friend that was a giant spray paint can that could turn into a semi I would call him Optimus Primer. Paint to your choice.. I use spray paint that we use on our duck blind... It's only in camo colors, but it's called Ultra Flat. Cover that with a flat clear coat. Cobra Commander or Serpentor or Fred V or was it VI or the Baroness w/ the syren's conch, or Destro, or Firefly w/ the help of brainwashed ninjas...........Now have a place to plop their bum. Hope you kids enjoyed today's lesson. Be prepared for a pop test on Friday. If anybody's got any questions my office hours are.......... PM me.
