i try to seal mine with mr. hobby spray dullcoat. doesnt always work on the joints though. some people use superglue or clear nail polish on joints so the paint cant be rubbed off. others are good at sanding those itsy bitsy little parts, and the paint sticks better and removing that tiny bit of material helps the pieces not rub together as hard. use whatever works for you.

Hey, you CAN paint...you just need practice.
keep in mind the paint we/you use is MODEL paint. Models don't have moving parts or people scratching it with their fingernail. A figure painted with model paint needs to be treated like a ...model. There is a guy out there who claims "Acrylics suck"(he's not on this site), my response: Anything sucks if you're using it beyond its intended purpose. I'm on another forum that has a guy who swears up and down that regular enamels will destroy plastic, over time. Now, I have heard a few reports Transformers figures crumbling shortly after being painted with solvent based paints, but I've got a few old models around here that were painted with solvent based enamels over a decade ago, and are still fine. A good model paint should hold up to fingernails, just fine. That's been my problem with the one figure I used Vellejo paint on. After drying over night, it could still be easily scraped off. That's when you need to prime. Clear coat is no substitute for good paint adhesion. Last edited by Greyryder; 09-11-2008 at 03:22 AM.. |
