I'm going to try the vice on the Duke torso, and see how I like it. I'm just pleased there are any alternatives to physically cutting them open. I'm all for this style of construction over the O-Ring, but I can't figure out why they couldn't still use the back screw.
Once I try the vice, I'll compare the two. I still really don't want to go the mallet route if I can avoid it.
Question on the vice approach though - are the pressure points then just each shoulder? Or do you still place something underneath one of the arms?

This method is just as dependable as the one that Hasbro showed at Con two years ago. The only problem as I see it, is that your applying force across the torso over a relitavely long time (several seconds) and that could tweak the fit or cause stress marks. With the mallet (if you have a steady hand and good eye) the chance for damage is greatly reduced.
But to each, what they are comfortable with. Thanks for posting this other link Knighthawk.

i use the vice but wrap him in the sock nice and tight and turn till u here the pop and it works like a charm for me
i never lost or broke a part this way yet
the other ways ive damaged figures
i tried evry method and this one worked the best for me
but go with whut works for you there is no one right way to do this cus the bottom line is u have to pop the pegs in the inside of the chest to make it split.
so be creative somebody passed the vice technique to me and im really happy with it

I still use a combo of the blade/screwdriver technique and have never had any figures destroyed. The blade is used to loosen the armpit and neck and shoulders and then the screwdriver slowly splits the torso apart. The thing I like about the screwdriver being used is that all of the tabs are all still intact (if you do so very slowly, very carefully and correctly) and therefore it's really easy to just snap the figures back together and only use a very small amount of glue and they're as good as new.
