Hey Everyone,
I was just thinking that I would like to improve my customs by using water decals as oppose to hand painting insignias and ranking patches, etc... but I don't have the first clue on where to being looking or even how to attempt make them. So, this is my cry for help to anyone who knows or works with them. Any information is valuable and helpful. Many thanks in advance Last edited by ultra8294; 10-29-2009 at 06:54 PM.. |

I use water decals and they work great. I have only been able to find them on ebay. You will need both clear and white depending on the job you want. Of course, you need a ink jet printer with good photo quality printing. And finally, a sealent to seal in the image after you are done printing. It's pretty simple. Sizing your images is what takes alot of time, and very small prints don't alway come out like you imagined.

look at Micromark.com as well. I use waterslides as well - but I have a buddy from my LEGO customizing days who makes me what I need and I send him old Star Wars LEGO stuff. I posted some of the waterslide stuff a while ago to see if anyone was interested as he already has an online presence - however it is all for LEGO...he isn't sure he wanted to stock Joe decals as well (other than LEGO versions) maybe even demand is high enough...look here for waterslides I have used - so far for stands and Slaughter's shirt, but have many more in works. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...slaymaker.html

finding the right scale may be tough. I haven't seen much in the 1:18 scale pre-printed decals of unit patches. Hobby stores usually have them for 1:35 down to 1:72 for those scale figures.
You can make your own as well. Testers actually sells all the materials at your local hobby store or Hobby Lobby. I've worked with water slide decals a ton on everything from model kits to miniature trains to customs. |

Testors makes these - at least the ones you can customize and print out on your own. Wal-Mart used to sell the kit, and I know Hobby Lobby sells it too, if there is one in your town. Most Wal-marts stopped carrying the model paints, etc...
