So I think I heard Dark5yth or GI Eddie talking about spray painting figs....I did not think this is possible, but Im thinking (in some cases) it may be better than Painting with a Brush?

Airbrush would be preferable to spray paint since you can control volume and spread. I would think complete disassembly would be required to do it properly or a serious amount of masking.
I've never had a problem using a plain old brush though. |

I sprayed figures several time tamiya spray its good because its thin so you can spray the joints and in 80% of cases won't chip. But I use mostly for body parts and as a base color. details are later added. one disadvantage is that (at least in the tamiya range) you cannot find many colors so you are limited. Using primers is also a good solution the only thing bad about it is that its a thick paint so it chips on the joints if you don't take prior precautions like sanding a bit or so. But to resume is a good solution.
Of course airbrush would be even better because you can use a wide range of colors, you can paint thin layers just like with sprays and you can control the spread making it possible to paint some details and save on paint. Painting with spray lots of it its waist on paper or card board.... |

I used the cheap 99 cent flat black that walmart sells on my De Aco custom and it held up great. Better than brushing, IMO.

Regarding the bonding version (fusion?), I know some use it on vehicles, how does it work with figures? Any chipping, or does it bond well? Also; how much is the colours affected by the base colour of the plastic? |

This is the one that 'bonds' to plastic, right? Or is that a specific type of Krylon?

I try to spray paint as much as i can as spray paint tends to bond to the material better MOST of the time. It also tends to chip less.
Every situation is different. I dont lay down parts on anything when I spray them because i dont wan overspray or dust to settle on the parts asthey dry. Also, I use liquid latex to mask everything that doesnt need to be painted. MJC actually sprays into a cup, and dips his brush into the wet spray paint to fine paint with the spray paint. Airbrushing is a great tool that offers precision and durability in painting. But it requires serious practice. like, more than a few figures lol, to do it well. otherwise it will just be fancy spray can. |
