I'm working on a Lowlight custom until the paycheck comes and I can complete a couple pieces.
Here's the slight problem. I want to make his hat removeable. I'm using green stuff. What I would like to know is what others would do to pull this effect off. |

I think I read somewhere that you wrap the head in plastic wrap (Keeping it a thin layer) then mold the greenstuff over that. When it's all dry, you can pull the plastic wrap off of everything and you'll have a hat that is molded to fit that certain head

i would use a bbi ski cap. or take either shipwrecks head from the spytroops/ jvc head or a lowlight and dermal it out to fit on the head your using.

Just brush on a very light coat of vaseline before adding the greenstuff to the top of the head to do your sculpt. After the green stuff cures, wiggle it off. I do it all the time to make stuff like Budo's chest armor.

Look for some of these at your local toy stores. I hear some places have them are on clearance right now. Many have their caps as accessories (no dremelling!) & they fit Joes.

for a one-time thing, yeah maybe dremel out the cap you want from another figure. But you ruin a figure/head in the process. Sculpting your own headgear is a tremendous amount of fun. I've got a whole squad geared up with custom sculpted berets and caps which are all removable.
If you go that route, Alyosha is dead on - the vaseline layer is the way to go. Maybe the plastic wrap works for some people, but it was very impractical when I tried it. In fact, the only time I've heard of it working was with larger figs, like the Marvel Legends line. |
