Just so you know a true f-14 is roughly 62 feet long. i dont know what that equates to in toy scale but do the math and you will have a more accurate size for your joes.
The JSI F-14A is exactly to 1:18th scale and an absolutely gorgeous rendition of the Tomcat. I have only one criticism. It's the original F-14A, same one Grumman also built for Iran. I would have really liked to see JSI make the F-14D, with the newer and cooler looking GE-110 engines, the updated Chin Pod the had the upgraded avionics, radar, and heads up cockpit display. Lastly from what I can see the JSI F-14 does NOT have the valances on the wings that extended outward from the forward wing section. The valances were triangular shaped, located at the front of the wing installed as part of the airframe. It is not on the wing itself but rather where the variable sweep wings meet the airframe, just above the engine intakes. It's just a cool functional part of the airframe that outside of models I have never seen anyone utilize. It's like an easter egg no one exploits I suppose. At 19.1 meters in length in true 1:18th scale it would be 41.78" long.
NICE! I really like the direction you are taking with this. Vac forming the body should make for an awesome build up. I look forward to your progress. |

Upon finding out that there was a scale 14 in the works, I halted what I was doing. A friend stationed in Atsugi asked around and found out the mass production of the Kawai 14 was canned. So after pulling this out of the closet I decided to work from scratch and plans from different RC Jets. This is the result Its still a very early WIP but Ill be pulling vacuum copies of the inlets and strake this week end and Ill post more as I progress. Any criticism, gripes or general hate mail is welcome.

Anyways, soldier on, bro. We'll see how she looks when she's done.

Wow. Imagine a scale aircraft carrier to go with that size F-14.

The F-14 is only 3.5 feet long. The carrier would have to be 63 feet long to accomodate that! You'd need one serious backyard for that!

Thats cool... wood is probably a pretty good material to use... did you ever see those wooden model airplanes they can have tons of detail and working parts (like yours)... can't wait to see this finished
