So, Ive decided to do my next custom work with the Tamiya acrylic enamels. This seems to be the choice of you all on the 'Tank.
The last 4 Ive done was with the Applebarrel, and FolkArt brands from Michaels. I sealed them with Krylon Matte finish..... Now heres the question, Are your customs getting "Sticky" to the touch?. All the arms and legs are shiny and sticky. Is this some sort of reaction to the topcoat of the Matte finish? What topcoat do you suggest on Tamiya painted figures? Thanks, Mike |

Hey Mike. I use both tamiya and Testors Model masters acrylics. The Testors dries crazy fast which is why I prefer that one, but with the tamiya, I will thin it out with some windex and it still takes a little while to dry. I usually wait 5-10 minutes between coats. I use testors dullcote for years and it seals very well.

BSM- Use the Tamiya brand thinner with the Tamiya products. I've seen folks say "use windex", "use alcohol", etc., but I promise you won't get any better results that to use their thinner. It's a ether glycol that is specific to their brand and a couple others (Gunze Sangyo springs to mind).

So far I've had no need to clearcoat the figures I've painted with Testor's Model Masters Acryl. It takes washing the figure in warm soapy water and several thin layers of paint, but the stuff just won't chip for me. It wouldn't come off by scraping with my fingernail, and was even difficult trying to scrape it off with an Xacto. But, if you must clearcoat, use something that is designed for soft plastics. |

Mike, i see that in your first post you said you are using Tamiya acrylic ENAMALS...was this a mistype?...acrylics and enamals are two different types of paint, and i learned that the enamals never fully dry...this may be why you are having problems
