I need help for my customs. I saw a lots of great custom on this forum and the paint seems to be perfect. I tried to paint some 25th figures and the result is very ugly. I used Acrylic paint buy at Waltmart.
I saw a thread a few month ago, i don't remember where, talking about Airbrush. I want to do more custom in the futur (figures & vehicles)and i want to know if Airbrushing doing a better job than hand painting? If it do, can you give me a online store link where to buy this kind of tools and what kind of primer and paint use with Airbrush. Thank you for your help. Hope to be able to post some customs in the futur! |

I have yet to use an airbrush on a GI Joe. I use Testors acrylic model paints, almost exclusively. Most of the paints I use are from the Model Master line. I use the Model Master acrylic primer, as well.
eHobbies sells a number of different acrylic model paints. They have both the Model Master, and the Tamiya paints. The only reason I preffer the Model Master paints, is because I do use the airbrush for a lot of other things I customize, and they don't need to be thinned, to be sprayed. (a few of the Model Master colors are intended specifically for miniatures and figurines, and are quite a bit thicker than the other colors) eHobbies also sells Polysclae paints, which have a lot of different oddball shades that might come in handy for action figures. I've never dealt with them, but Bear Air has been recomended to me, by my neighbor, who does a lot of airbrush work. I recomend Iwata brand airbrushes. I've got two of them. My neighbor recomended them, when I asked him. |

Yeah, your problem isn't the handpainting, it's the cheap Wal-Mart paints. Those paints are for grannies and their "Country Kitchen" craft projects. I used to use them for my customs, but when I decided to try my hand at Joe customs, I decided to take a popular customizer's advice and use quality acrylics such as Testors Model Master or Tamiya. They work great. You have to apply them in several thin layers, but they end up smooth and don't flake or chip. You can find those at most hobby stores.
