Today I am finally trying to do my first custom. I was really surprised at how easy it is to take the 25th line apart. Now I am at the coloring part and I am having a hell of a time messing with this paint. I already have Testors enamel water based paint that I used on the comic pack storm shadow and learned that doesnt work very good so I went out and bought Testors acrylic paint and it too is water based but it is not covering the original color very good. It just keeps running all over the place. Can someone please give me some suggestions. I would really appreciate it.

SHAKE THE PAINT. did you sand ? sand the figure first, that helps tremendously in paint application. certain colours require 2 coats. |

Testors enamels are oil based paints, they won't work on your figures because they will never dry. Acrylics should work great. You might need to shake the bottle of paint up more to make it less watery. Don't try to paint the figure in one coat, either, you'll just end up globbing the paint on. Do a couple thin coats and make sure you give the paint time to dry between coats. I use Testors Model Masters Acrylics and they work great for me. You can also try Tamiya Paints or Citadel/Games Workshop Paints. Both are quality acylic paints.

The sanding makes sense. What grate do you recommend?

Hot Pink over Dark Blue (my Zarana custom) took a ton of coats. If you're doing a lighter color over a dark plastic it may just be a matter of paint, dry, paint, dry, paint dry... Hope that helps, can't wait to see what you've got going.

Yes, make sure to shake or stir your paint. I use a micro immersion blender and you will need to apply multiple coats...sometimes two or three does the trick, but other bodies require a lot. Patience is key. And good brushes. I like camel hair the best.

Thanks guys. Ill just need more patience. I am just really excited. My figures code name is Hollow Point. Put it like this, he will be carrying Gung-Ho's gun and Roadblocks big gun w/bullet chain. I will post pics as soon as I get him the way I want. He is my first.
