Hey guys,
I'm working with Krylon Fusion right now, and for those of you who have used it before, what is a good paint thinner to use to prep (as per the directions) what's going to be painted? I'm just concerned with damaging the plastic, as I really have no experience with thinners, and I've tried using Fusion before without prepping, as I know others have successfully, but it didn't work out the same for me. |

I suggest just using 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. It's strong enough to remove any residues and doesn't leave anything behind. Use a toothbrush to clean the crevices and wipe with a lint free painters cloth.

Thanks so much, Alyosha! After that, should I do a quick wipe with a damp cloth?

Also be sure to remove as much paint as you can off of the base figure using the 91% alcohol. Fusion works by bonding with the uppermost layer of plastic - essentially melting and fusing with it. If it touches paint or even sculpting compound, anything non-plastic, it gently eats away and it and may never dry, instead leaving an orange peel effect along with a sticky mess.

I've had pretty good success just by prepping it in a sink full of water, and a little dish soap. Just rinse well, and let dry well afterwards. Takes off oil and residue without any worry about hurting the toy.
