Hey guys, I'm in the prelim stages of a few customs. I read through the sticky and got the parts pic of the 25th Anniv. figure. I haven't taken any apart yet, so I wanted to ask - are all the interal joints the same for the figures, including male and female figures? I mean: Torso Joint, Hip Joint, Friction Plugs and that sort of thing.
I'm guessing they are universal for the line of figures, but just want to make sure before I go taking figs apart. Thanks in advance!! |

Most of them are the same. There are some differences however.
Torso Joints change. I haven't counted how many and which figures but I'm pretty sure I've seen at least 3-4 different types. You have to do some cutting to combine say and Gung-Ho lower torso with a Serpentor upper torso Knee Joints are a little different on some figures since a few figures have only 1 knee joint, but most of them have double knee joints. Wrist joinst also have been known to change. Anyone with a large glove (CC, Scarlett, etc...) has a hole in the hand, while others have a hole in the arm instead Other than those, all the other parts should be the same |

thanks very much for the fast reply! I've been studying the figs, and think I've worked out who has what joint - stuff I can see anyway, it's the internals that I'm worried about. When I have somethings finished I'll post pics, but don't hold your breath, lots going on. I hope to have some serious hobby time soon but we all know how those plans go.
Thanks again! |

The knee joints on some figures have different thicknesses to them than others. For instance, when I first began my Tunnelrat custom, I had to shave down the knee joints of Shipwreck's knee joint (and lower leg) in order to attach it to Cobra Commander's upper thighs. That, and I have had to dremel/bore out the hole in the knee joint to accomidate some upper thigh pins.
I wish they WERE all universal... it would made things SO much easier. But I guess the extra work makes it feel even more like your own little work of art. I can't wait til I'm done with my Tunnelrat custom so I can post some pics! I hate waiting on parts to come in the mail! |

it's nothing you need to worry about too much...i've found that anything can be fixed/modded to work...and worse case scenario, just glue or screw the fig back together...no worries

yeah, I've got some hours behind scratchbuilding 1/24 scale auto models and modifying 1/6 scale resin figure kits and that sort of thing. Gundams and what not. The main thing I'm keeping in my mind here that I've not faced before is keeping articulation. Thanks for all the input. All I have to do is wait until my order from BBTS shows up with some extra joes for this project. I'll post pics when I've got something underway.
Thanks again! |
