I always liked this figure as a child, and felt that he deserved some improvements in his 25th appearance. I started by satisfying my never-ending desire to have as many removable bits as possible: I dremeled his head out to make his helmet removable and chopped his holster together with a spare Tunnel Rat holster in order to have a useable sidearm. I chose the O13 Hawk head since it fit nicely inside the hollowed helmet and it wasn't in use for anyone else in my collection (Hawk will always have his v2 head in my collection). It also had the scowl typical of someone who spends his day REPEATEDLY telling Bazooka how to log in to his email account.
That sweet leg gadget from the POC Beachhead seemed perfect for Mainframe, so I attached it to his existing leg gadget to make a compound widget. I attached a pin to the back so it can be slid between the straps on his holster to be "attached" to his belt. I have no idea what the widget does, but I think Mainframe likes to use it as a conversation starter with the ladies. "oh this? It's very technical...why don't I explain it over dinner?" He's not very smooth. Finally, I prettied up his paint aps a bit and equipped him with a weapon from Marauder John's (to remind him he was a marine) and POC Cover Girl's laptop (to remind him that computers are much better than they were in the 80s. Now if only I could get him to give up that Nokia phone on his shoulder...). Last edited by afwaywa; 10-03-2010 at 02:06 PM.. Reason: Spelling/grammar |

Great work on the figure, the head and helmet just look a little off(just my opinion).I think Mainframe is one of the hardest as regards helmet and head.

Very cool. I used a Skyduster head on mine and it seemed to fit his neck perfectly!

Anything specific that looks "off?". I have a hard time being critical of my own work, but would very much appreciate any tips on how to improve it.

i really like your use of the Hawk head here. I agree that V2 is the better one to use for that character.
have never really been able to dig Mainframe because of the helmet. my first though for a custom was a cutter/gung ho/ leatherneck head with the mustache removed. wasnt crazy about the outcome. now i think i'll use your idea and put an 8 point cover on him instead Last edited by Topside; 10-03-2010 at 02:59 PM.. |

Just the way the helmets sits on the head.My custom skills are lacking,I can't give you tips for improvement - which in turn makes me feel like a dick for saying it looks a bit off, like I said tho - he's not easy at all for customising and your job is GOOD!!!

I think the helmet needs to go further in. Looks too high. Anyway, great job here. I've been thinking of ways to fix mainframe. |

I always liked Mainframe, too, and this custom is a great improvement on the one Hasbro gave us. Big bonus points for the working holster and removable helmet!
