I have been out of the loop in terms of customs for quite some time (I'm a regualr at TFW2005.com, but new to Hisstank.com)...but I have finally found something that peaked my interests enough to get me back into the field.
I am a huge fan of Final Fantasy VII (actually more into FFVIII...but VII has more stuff going on right now...), and recently I picked up Crisis Core for the Sony PSP. Great game, and I recommend it to anyone you liked the original game...its just one huge fanfest of fanstuff! My best friend happens to be a huge G.I.Joe fan...and I thought it would be awesome to make a Cloud Strife figure in that scale, and with his help, I've gotten closer and closer to finishing my first G.I.Joe/Final Fantasy VII custom. Eventually I'll get back to Transformers customs...but this has been a huge amount of fun! The main body, arm, and shoulder guard in the pics is from Xamot, but I am probably going to replace the main body with Firefy's main body. The left arm is from some Obiwan Kenobi figure, the belt and feet are from some Crimson Guard figure, and the pants are from Snowjob. The Buster Sword is actually my first attempt at making something out of styrene...which I drove an hour away to get! He's far from finished...still have to figure out what to use as his head...and I have to finish painting him and figure out his upper body...along with detailing the Buster Sword...but I promised a few people I would post pics! Any suggestions and comments would be great! |

wow dude, that's fantastic.
somne recomendations on the head? if you can sculpt, go that route. if not, look up final fantasy 7 trading, or gAshapon capsule toys. you might find one in the right scale. failing that, pick a joe, any joe, and resulpt his features as best you can. by resculpt, i mean cut and carve away the unwatned parts with an exacto- knife. the most recigniseable feature on cloud is his hair, so as long as you can make his hair right, ( by sculpting, with kneadite would be my recomendation) You'll be golden. |

Maybe you could do a custom of Squall from FF8. A gunblade soldier for the joes and Seifer could be a soldier for cobra...

I actually thought the sword would be harder...but it was real easy! Oh yeah! In the works! |

YOu might have an easier time finding out about kneadite by looking up " green stuff "
it's a two-part epoxy sculpting medium that dries overnight, no bakeing required( about 8 hours to cure actualy). It find it WODERFUL for sculpting things like fire and hair. it's quite sticky, and adheres to plastics quite well. Get a Games workshop sculpting tool, if you have a hobby shop in town, they should also have green stuff in stock as well. One bit of advice, while working with greenstuff, keep a jar of vasaline, or petrolum jelly nearby to dip your tools into. it keeps the tool from sticking to the putty. I used it to make the hair for my solid snake figure tosday, I'll paint him tommorow, and post him in the custms contest. |
