Hello everyone! I had a number of people recommend these forums to me after I entered in the GI Joe club contest so I had to check it out. Normally I'm a Marvel Legends customizer but the very first customs I ever did were Joes, unscrewing the 3 3/4" figures and swapping parts around when I was about 5. So this is like going back to my roots!
I entered my Cobra SWARM into the GIJoeCub.com's custom contest: http://gijoeclub.com/custom_contest25.cfm and it made it into the top 25, yay! Unfortunatly they left out the single most important aspect of the figure... It lights up! To my knowledge nobody has put a static light-up unit in a Joe custom (least not a 25th Anniv one) and I wanted to get everyone's thoughts about it. If you're a GI Joe club member you can actually vote for the figure too! Name: Cobra S.W.A.R.M. Parts used: Head: Patlabor 'Phantom Labor' model kit head Body, upper arms, upper legs, hands, feet: 25th Anniv Firefly (80%) Shoulderpads: Superhero Showdown Iron Man Lower arms, lower legs: Microman Flightpack: Sigma 6 Cobra Commander weapon piece Wings: House of M Iron Man wings. Lower leg panels: Destroyer Droid shoulderpads Chest circle, neck hoses wires: random parts LED unit: Dollar store toy Base: Firefly's base The flightpack is removable that reveals the battery/LED unit. There's an on/off button on the flightpack which operates the LED in the unit's chest. The figure can be mounted on the display stand or flightstand. The custom was painted with Testors Model Master acryl paints. The tiny silver Cobra logo on the chest was painted freehand as well. Click here for tons more pics including the flying shots! --->Cobra S.W.A.R.M. Hope this starts me into doing more Joe customs now! Last edited by Jin Saotome; 04-11-2008 at 02:47 AM.. |

Uh no, that's okay, you don't need to do any more GI Joe customs, this one is more than enough, jeez. Yes, yes the LED kicks all kinds of @$$, too, we know.
Just kidding, man, welcome! I've checked out your work in the past, and needless to say, am blown away by it. In fact, I used your tutorials when I got back into customizing Joes. I've seen your handiwork on Transformers and ML, I can't wait to see what you cook up next for GI Joe. I think the LED is tight, too bad they didn't make note of it, oh well, SWARM is impressive enough! It's funny, when I saw the figure, I did a double take, I was like "This looks like Jin's stuff, but he doesn't do Joes...right?", lol. At any rate, glad to have you here, and good luck! |

Incredible work as always.
I love the light up chest. I really get an updated T.A.R.G.A.T. vibe from this figure. However I love it on it's own and would happily add it to my 25th Joe collection as a new figure. |
