I loved TMNT as a kid, and When neca did the TMNT figures for collectors i was very excited. The figures i thought were phenominal, i just wasn't big on them being based on the comic, I have no nostagia for the comic, I didn't even know there was a comic as kid. When i saw the comics, i was like why are there 4 raphaels? Why is it so hard to tell them apart. If they don't happen to be holding a weapon, they could be anyone. So I'm all about getting toon/original figure versions of charaters. I was really hoping for a super detailed line from neca based on the toon and toys, but it will never happen. Playmates is holding the license hostage, and I don't think we'll ever see like good figures from playmates. They are IMO the worst toy company. I'd love if hasbro or mattel got the license. So after giving up all hope i decided to do it myself. I had a hard time deciding what Scale to make these in, i kept vacilating from making them 4 inch or ML neca turtle style. One of the advantages if i had done these 4 inch style was I wanted to make all the different colored foot ninjas from the old arcade games. But the advantage of doing Neca style was already having the turtles and Mousers sculpted. Bebop is an Original Sculpt Over a MOTUC mer-man figure. I'm SO happy i found the cartoon turn around reference art, it was super useful. Theres some things that are missing right now, Like I havent added the chains, because I'm going to make them out of real metal chains. Same with the nose ring hopefully. I also left of the gun belt on his chest, cause i really liked the chest sculpt and didn't wanna cover it up.... on top of rationalizing it as being based original figure in that department. I also gave him the wierd turtle skull emblem from the back of the original figure on his back I'm kinda proud of the articulation on this cause it's all functioning. I thought i camme up of a cool way of doing shoulder armor. I sculpted the base shoulder. Then using my seperation method with liquid masking, i made the turtle shoulderpads removable. Then i had strap of styrene connected by the neck area hidden with sculpt. So the styrene was connnected but not actually connected on the shoulder. Then i glued the shoulderpads to the styrene. So the shoulders can move around, but the turtle shells are connected to main body. I also kept the abdomen and waist articulation even with the vest sculpted over it using my seperation method. then when the apoxie was like 80% cured where its bendy but it keeps the detail i trimmed it away The hands are kinda crappy, i think they need to be touched up still, and the one small shoelaces bow is annoying the hell outta me now that i can see it in the pics.

Huh huh huh You said "vacillating"...
Can't wait to see the finished product! I too had a difficult time with the comic TMNT when I first was introduced to them. I had grown up on the cartoon version and the associated toys and video games. |

See, i grew up on the comic first, so the toon turtles seemed kinda ..... dumb. This figure is amazing though...i always liked the concept of Rocksteady and Bebop just not the execution on the toon.
