Hey guys, just wanted to share my first test subject in customizing. I learned so much while doing this one. The pics are a little blurry because I only have a phone camera. Since it was my first attempt, I used really cheap materials, $6 clay, a serpentor figure as the base. Had some problems with painting the joints and some uneven paint in other areas. You might notice the left fang of his visor broke off =(
He will be the first of my alley viper elites, I call him Panzer, as he will be the first into a room to absorb fire and has reinforced armor (thats what the plates are on his vest are, and has a thick helmet that also covers his face), though Im still trying to figure out how I am going to make a shield. I have a spare original alley viper sheild but I am saving that for my next squad member. I still have some touchups to do on him. I decided not to go orange and blue for their camo patterns. preproduction: external link because I had to chose 4 picshttp://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...stomalley2.jpg semifinal: any feedback (even though its blurry sorry about that) to help me improve for my next one would be appreciated. Pretty good concept. The paint looks clean. The armor looks like it's sticking out off of the chest and about to fall off. Maybe that's just the lighting/shadows, I don't know. I'm curious as to what head you used and if the faceplate moves?
I did an urban Alley Viper a few months back using the Firefly mold, Beachhead's head, accessories, and webgear, and an Alyosha custom Alley Viper helmet. |

The plates on his chest was suppose to be a bit loose, like it was attached ontop of his existing vest, but when I look at it from the side it does look a little too loose. It is a full serpentor figure, I did a non removable helm and nonmoving visor as I wanted to keep it simple for my first go (that and I just wanted to encase serpentors ugly ugly head in something =)).
Your custom is neat. I was actually going to do the exact same thing as yours next (great minds think a like), except use a full firefly, beach head vest, and a mold on top of serpentors helm with custom visor. He was a natural choice because of his urban camo already. And infact thats why I chose the color scheme on Panzer, similar to firefly. Im not sure if I should paint fireflys face mask black or keep the camo partern. I like your transparent visor, how did you make your helm? Last edited by NeoDragonKnight; 03-05-2008 at 12:28 AM.. |

Im a total newbie haha, only just got back into GI Joe b/c of the 25th line ;)
What is the website for his store? Ill probablly do a custom helm for my firefly alley viper but when I do the one after that, that transparent helm would be perfect for the demolishion squad member I have dreamed up (already gave him a name, 'Mouse Holer', named after the Canadian Tactics at Anzio). Alyosha's website is brokenarrowtoys.com but he's store's not re-opened yet and I don't know if he'll have any of the AV helmets in stock.

Just got my green stuff the other day so I went ahead and tried to mold an alley viper helmet using serpentors helm as a base. His face plate might be a bit big, but it still looks ok in person. Same idea as airbornes, firefly with new equipment. I repainted a spare alley viper sheild I had to match the urban camo, and added a sling to a maurader UMP.
Im judging whether I should paint his ski mask black or not. comments or suggestions for my second go would be appreciated (though this had a lot less work then my first). http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...ght/blitz2.jpg He will be the squad leader. I was thinking his name is Blitz or Blitzkrieg. Next up to do is Mouseholer (demo specialist), who will be more ambitious, c4 strapped around his body, sachels, and another helm and shield from scratch (and I still have to give Panzer his shield too). These are really good for just starting customizing or even if you have been doing it for a while. A lot of times I add too much green stuff to my customs. If it gets too thick, once it dries take an exacto blade to trim and then sand it down to the desired thickness.
