This is another Oktober Guard custom whose name might throw some fans off. Marvel G. I. Joe Issue #105 (1990) introduced the character "Sgt. Misha" as the Oktober Guards new Spetsnaz Trooper. To me, both the comic book rendition and the (2006) action figure looked goofy rather than the "tough and determined soldier" the 2006 file card made him out to be.
I wanted "Sgt. Misha" to have an actual code name. I found the name "Ruslan" listed on Oktober Guard wiki page with very little information concerning him. The only thing I can really find about this character is that he is an EOD specialist that looks more like arctic Shipwreck. With so many different (and some defunct) timelines in the comics (Horror Show, Stormavik, Schrage & Brekhov are now alive?!) I figured the name "Ruslan" is up for fair game and would make a great code name of Sgt. Misha (I mean, how many different Joe characters either share the same code name or filename?). In my Joeverse, Sgt. Misha aka Ruslan pulls double duty as the team's field medic. Sgt. Misha's iconic look focuses more on his Panamanka hat and glasses. Instead of his typical round frames, I decided to opt for some glasses that looked a little more like military tactical wear. The hat is from the comic pack Sgt. Misha action figure. The body is an MTF Recon-Ops build with a Vanguard head. The glasses are some rectangular-type glasses I got free from Daremo's dojo. The backpack is from Red Star v.2, which I thought matched the Recon-Ops color scheme quite well. Jason ** On another note, I tried keeping up with the comics, but all the timelines got so conviluted (for me). Plus, I just couldn't get into Hama's continued ARAH series. I'd just assume they scrap everything and start from scratch. ** |

The final member of my Oktober Guard team is a character first introduced as an action figure (1992), but later appeared in the comic books and cartoons, Big Bear! Interestingly, "Big Bear" was originally Horror Show's "Pravda Patrol's" name.
I like the looks of the FSS Club Big Bear, so I wanted to incorporate some of that look into my custom. The head is a Big Bear flesh-tone resin cast from Vortious Customs. I painted the fur hat, eyes and hair. The big collar and vest accessories are also from Vortious Customs "winter coat" cast in a green flex resin. I trimmed the front pockets off and glued them, the back accessories, and the fur collar to an MTF 86 vest. The vest is still removable, so I can have Big Bear in a less wintery looking outfit. The base figure for this custom is an MTF Field-Ops build with cloth lower legs & boots. I left the armored forearms, as is since I thought they fit well with him firing the big rocket launcher. The rocket launcher is from Firefly v.20, which is the same as the FSS Club figure just in a different color. Thanks for looking. Please drop a comment, question or critique. I'll be posting more images of Oktober Guard vehicles early next week. Jason |

In the meantime, here is a "box art" style picture of my custom Mi-24 Hind-E!
Besides the custom paint job and stickers, I moved the wings down to closer resemble a real-life Mi-24 Hind-E attack gunship. Also, the main rotor is from a G. I. Joe Eaglehawk. More images to come... Jason |
