I've seen 3d printed versions but I know they aren't strong and they don't flex, so I made my own hot injection molds to create a reproduction set.
Made from semi-flexible polypro, these hold their pose and stay together better than the originals. I can't find the right shade of olive green and am limited to black, for now. |

My biggest problem with mine is the lack of an ABS-like material, so everything comes out white and with a grainy finish. What kind of hassle is it to set up injection molding at home? How do you create the molds?

Looks good! I made some 3d printed vanes myself and they are strong AND they bend.

I'm still curious though, how are you making your injection molds? CNC machine or what? How much work does it take you to get from concept to product? You're getting great results and if a home shop can turn that out I'd like to see how it's done.

I have CNC mill and injection molding machine setup in my garage and use CAD/CAM software to design the parts and molds. I start with FDM printed prototypes before committing time and material to machining.
My background is manufacturing so I don't see it as a hassle but working in an no AC garage next to a hot molding machine in Texas summer heat is not fun. |
