I remember seeing a post in the Creative section placing Gi Joe and Cobra in an alternate timeline where they fought during the Second World War. I absolutely loved the idea (At this link in case you haven't seen it https://www.deviantart.com/el-mono-c...aper-415739745) set out to recreate a small portion of that world by customizing some World War II fighters. I originally had purchased a 21st Century Toys Ju-87 and a F6F Hellcat (Both 1/18 scale models), but I feel like the initial huge investment (they cost A LOT of money) did not justify tearing them apart and kind of mutilating them. I promptly sold them and set out to find used 21st Century Toy or Bluebox airplanes that I wouldn't mind being broken.
Lucked out at a surplus store over the river in Illinois! A gentlemen had an two World War II airplanes, one german and one american, that he did not mind parting with for $50! Score, considering the other two combined cost me over $200. This was years ago, so I'm sure they're much more valuable now. It took me several years to get around to this project, but I finally got it done in about two days. I present to you, the Cobra FW 190 "Klapperschlange" with Pilot. Admittedly, the paint apps are not great on Wild Weasel and I may touch him up some more, including maybe giving him a scarf. But he works for the demonstration of this custom. I hope you enjoy!

I’m always surprised by how elongated the later 190s look. I assume this is a D, but I almost want to think it’s a Ta 152 instead. Either way, looks nice!
I love the idea of Cobra in other eras and locales too. Personally want to do a Cobra LK lunar lander, and MiG EPOS, as good Star Brigade enemies that are actually Cobra. Anyway, nice piece, I hope you do more! |
