I've made a couple of versions of this iconic rifle. One from G.I. Joe parts (DG Duke M16 with Frostbite scope) and another exclusively from Marauder parts. I need to take some pics and post them.
How did you make the head for the 50th "Retro?" It looks like a Resolute (dreadlocks) Stalker (with hair shaved down), but from the angle in the picture, I can't tell if you changed the beret. If I were to ever make some LRRP customs, I would borrow heavy from this recipe! Jason The intent was actually to use a repainted Jammer head I bought from ebay. But that head looked too big on the body in my eyes. |

When I started this thread last year, one of the things I wanted to do early on was to have the photo below from 2015 updated at least a month into the thread. But with this group pose and composition being one of my all time favorites, and remembering that it took weeks before I was satisfied with everyone’ poses for that shoot (like every head turn, torso twist, raised rifle angle, and on and on), I decided to hold back and update other easier group shots.
Last week, with everything else wrapped up, working through some of the weirdo nuances of the new phone’s camera, and finalizing a display stand that could eliminate the need for figure stands, I was able to finally take time to reset this shot and take a few updated versions. The goals of the update were to 1) get rid of all the display stands for a cleaner purer shot; 2) improve the lighting; 3) switch out all the white background to get a richer deeper color hue when viewing on screen; 4) go for a wider shot ratio to fill up a monitor/TV; 5) get all the latest figure tweaks finished to have the most up to date versions of these guys. I don’t think I’ve achieved my absolute final shot of this, a few more tweaks with poses and camera settings, but after a week of mulling these over, I think they’re pretty good to share. The four below all have somewhat different pre-shot settings, lighting, background colors, and post-processing: I haven’t picked a favorite to take to the final yet. Inspired by that legendary first issue cover, the card art paintings of Hector Garrido, and the figure recreations by James Kavanaugh in his Rank & File series:
Ultimate Weapon of Democracy (2019-0609ab) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr For reference and comparison below. I had to take some "artistic" and logistical liberties to get something I liked without any component compositing. I also can't depart from landscape mode, since I prefer making shots for viewing on tvs and monitors. Ultimate Weapon of Democracy (References) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Unfiltered brew below (with a liitle bit of Google Photo Pop and saturation).. Final above was filtered and processed countless times through three different free photo apps. Ultimate Weapon of Democracy (Unfiltered) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr And a birds eye peek behind the scenes below. The rig for Hawk (which I didn't bother to CGI out in the final). Lots of magnets and tin plate. Dead weight to keep Flash from sliding off. Raised platform for a lower and better camera angle. And lastly, a vividly colored background: a general no-no for me, and a pain to reign in during post processing. Ultimate Weapon of Democracy (Behind the Scenes) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr
