I like to think as the AVAC as just being a repaint of the Air Viper, based on what was on the avac's file card, with the black uniform of the 50th set being the standard Air Viper. Or switching them. I never got that 50th full set, the 1986 set already has two pilots, so AVAC in my set is simply The Air Viper to bring it all together.
EDIT: Scratch that. Now I'm thinking the Air-Viper should have a red/black/silver/gray color scheme much like the other Cobra pilots. Perhaps the Cyber-Viper that came with the POC Deviant Mech could fill the role of the "lost" Air-Viper as he shares parts from Wild Weasel and AVAC.

Yeah, that Arctic Cobra Officer with the grenade bandolier is top notch, I might have to make one if I can find the Tele Viper figure.

Thank NH. And so you know, most pictures are linked back to the flickr site by simply clicking on the photo.
Also, all the Cobra just from the last year is found in the album linked below. In the browser form of Flickr, near the top right is a button that lets you view all as a slideshow. https://www.flickr.com/photos/134079...57683722162980 Quote:
Thanks RM. These guys don't get as much love as my 82 and 84 sets. |

It’s funny. During the 25th run I recall so much complaining about the oversaturation of repaints. Sure, the modern figure designs were fairly new and in many ways not quite up to speed of what we’d end up getting sculpt-wise from the majority of figures from POC to 50th. Now with NO new Joe products on the shelves or online, I think pretty much any modern era collectors would love for Hasbro to release some repaint sets exactly like this. I know I would. These are fantastic.

Choosing the right color scheme from a Hasbro standpoint, though, would be at odds with what would make sense with our collections, as reasoning may tell you that a radically different paint job on the re-released figure would get more people to rebuy that figure. |

COBRA COURIER, CODE NAME: SCAR-FACE
For years, most of these 1983 Cobra figures were simply an 8-figure add-on set, combined with and flanking my Cobra O13. When I decided to do this thread, for the pictures I wanted an odd nine-figure to the arrangement—and the idea of adding/creating Scar-face from the comics worked out, similar to adding Dr. Venom to the O13 set. Simply doing a Cobra Trooper, with scars, slightly different web gear, and a briefcase would have worked since this set could have used a blue-shirt. But a few Google/Bing image searches turned up the helmetless and trench coat look that made me remember Classic issues #17 & #18 (Classic TPB #2, ch 7,8). I also remember that someone else already had a similar custom, I believe here at HissTank, but with sculpted scruffy hair—I can’t find the reference right now, otherwise I’d bump it for proper cred). gCobra_25th_83-zScarface_2018-0810c by J Perez, on Flickr The body is all v1 (or sim) Cobra Trooper—I’ve got so many extras given the O13 DG swap out, so it was nice to find a way to get this buck back into the Shelf Collections. I figured the coat would benefit from a thinner torso and legs, at the same time concealing those old parts a bit. The lower arms are from any one of the 25th or ROC Wild Bill figures (similar to what I did for Dr. Venom in the O13). I believe the head is a Dollar General Cobra Trooper head. The hair was painted a darker brown for some reason, the mask painted red, and the scars painted on by hand, though there may be a slight x-acto knife groove cut in help guide the painting. The belt is from an ROC reactive armor Duke or Ripcord since I had a spare. You can also use the belt from the trooper or officer webgear by cutting off the harness. The handcuffs are from 30th Law and briefcase from…who knows, I’ve 10 of them lying around. Finally, the trench coat piece is from a Marvel Movie version of Nick Fury. I had this figure around as fodder—he was going to be used for a Black Trench Coat Destro (to go along with ROC Baroness and ROC Doctor) but was too short. The black trench coat’s exterior was painted with Acrylic Testors Wood or Dark Tan. Since it was too much effort to get a nice clean uniform looking paint coating, I opted to douse the entire figure with a black Citadel paint wash, letting it sit for just a bit before wiping the excess off. Part of me is a little upset with the final product, in that I gave into making him look more bad-ass than how he actually came across in the comic. But it’s a neat figure, and nicely filled that odd man gap in the set. These photos were taken this weekend--still playing with the new phone and its low-light capabilities, and with the new magnet mat base display. No updates to the figure except coating the briefcase handle with clear topcoat nail polish (then flat acrylic black) for a better hand grip. gCobra_25th_83-zScarface_2018-0810d by J Perez, on Flickr |

I think it looks great! I love how you have the handcuffs and gave Scar Face a "broom-handle" Mauser. I bought that same Nick Fury figure just for the accessories!
Also, personally, I love the 25th blue shirt sculpt and the only thing I really think it suffers from is the lack of fabric detail. The sculpt is a little too "smooth." What filter did you use for the bottom pic? Always looking for a better "comic book" type filter. Thanks. Jason |
