Customs are my favorite part of this site. There are a lot of creative people here that post some great work. For people that are rude and leave nasty comments that don't even come close to critiques, remember everyone has to start somewhere. There is a wealth of knowledge here as well as people to contact for advice on customs.
I would hate to see people move away from doing customs because some jerk decided to go postal on them and destroy their confidence in making customs.
On the other hand, if you are going to post customs, be open to honest critiques. Some comments might seem harsh, but whenever you look at something long enough, whether it be artwork, sculpture or whatever, your eyes tend to "fix" things that are incorrect. Having a fresh set of eyes look over your work is the BEST way to get assistance for improving what you do.

I figure that if someone comments negatively because they are purist, well thats their opinion (and u know what they say about opinions) If they comment negatively, because they are trying to help give tips for future customs, fine then take it or leave it. Finally if they comment negatively just to be an ass, I say if they think they can do it better let em try it themselves. Otherwise, they need to stfu Just my 2 cents.
I mean, there is no way in hell I could even come close to customizing a figure (I don't have the skill), but that being said I am going to do a DIO of the PIT from the GI Joe marvel comics series. Will be interesting to see how it comes out. (especially since I have no idea how to do the vehicle elevators, I want them to actually work) Also, to all the customizers out there my hat is off to you, keep doing what you do best

i try to give fair and balanced criticisms. if i think the custom absolutely sucks, i won't say anything. i try to say something positive but then give my criticism with tips on how to correct what's wrong

If I see a custom that could use a little touching up or improvements I will tend to give constructive critisim, Im never rude about it though. I would expect the same for when I post my customs, I welcome all critisisms personally and if they are rude I just ignore it, its YOUR custom what important is YOU enjoy it.

IMHO, its not what you say but how you say it.
Its one thing to say to a guy "I think that the paint around the torso needs some touch ups. If you used a different black you could get a much better effect on the pockets". Thats helpful, and can let the improve on their future work (or even the current custom).
Its another to just say "Dude, ur paint skilz suk."
Something constructive that a person can actually use to improve is something I don't think anyone wouuld see as bad. But just flat out criticism is very wrong.

If I post something on here I like to know what someone really thinks about it. If the paint looks chunky or the dremeling job is blotched. I also don't mind hearing improvement ideas if you think i should add something or move something around. As long as your saying something that can help me think of a different angle or a way to improve my skill its fine. Just don't post any comments like "it looks like a dead goat that's been dry humped by a bear and then painted".

I guess my thought is, if you can't take the criticism, whether it be constructive (paint job, technique) or personal opinion ("Hey, don't f--- with Shockwave!"), you shouldn't be posting it in a public forum and asking for people's opinions.
This is a forum full of adult males who collect action figures. We're not exactly the most mature group of people around, ya know? You can't expect that everyone will be kind, or even polite. If you can't handle that, simply don't post.
There are some customizers who simply do not have the talent to make a good custom. I am one of them, which is why you've never seen a Derek2783 custom on the boards. I think some people simply need to accept the fact that they suck at customizing, and either stop, or work really hard to get better.
I'm not saying it's ok to be a jerk when a newbie post something, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying, if you're sensitive, don't post, and if you suck, be prepared for criticism. No one "deserves" praise just for trying. I think you should have a genuinely good product before you should expect to be complemented.
That's just my 2 cents.
