Cool, I really like how you updated the file cards. Zap makes sense as a Marine since 0351/0352 assault men (one is a tow gunner, the other SMAW) have a secondary responsibility as the infantrys organic explosives capability, and depending on the type of warfare, ie Iraq and Afghanistan type counter insurgency, the explosives expertise is used as much if not more than the anti tank capability. You are right though, if Cutter were enlisted, the likely MOS for a hovercraft pilot would be boatswain's mate. Oddly, as far as I know, the only service that actually gives officers an MOS is the Marine Corps. The Army, officers have a "branch", the Navy uses the term "designator", not sure about the AF, but Lawrence Hama being enlisted Army, it makes sense that he called it MOS. Another weird bit of trivia, about 12 years ago or so, I was still in the USMC, and I was on a project analyzing officer promotions by MOS and we kept coming across the term "secondary MOS" and it is not in any official USMC orders. You have your MOS, and then various "additional MOSs" or "skill designator MOS" but not secondary. I half wonder if all the Marines growing up on ARAH GI Joe just used that term.
I have two other sons that have both enlisted (one USAF, the other Army), and neither one has been given an option for a "Secondary" MOS. My USAF enlistee son plans to be a SERE Trainer and my younger Army enlistee (he's a High School senior, goes active duty right after graduation) is looking at being a mechanic. So, maybe "secondary" MOS is a carry-over from Vietnam? Jason |

I haven't commented enough in your thread. It is jammed packed with terrific customs. I have already collected the parts to copy your Blowtorch. Now, I have to add Wild Weasel to that list.
Other standouts are Zartan, who is a great combo of various Zartan parts and a great use of PoC Beachhead's torso, and Sand Viper. I love that concept and the execution is top-notch. OB

Another update to my "CLASS OF 1984" customs. This time around it is the "hooded" Cobra Commander. I never had this figure as a kid, but my cousin did. I didn't even know about the special mail-away figure - seems like most mail-away promotions were packaged with vehicles and not on the action figure cards like how Star Wars advertised. Anyway, I wasn't too disappointed because after looking at my cousin's "hooded" Cobra Commander, I didn't like how dark the blue was.
I wanted a "Marvel-esque" style "hooded" Cobra Commander. I really like the blue-style Crimson Guard hooded Cobra Commander, except for the small peanut head. I painted a 50th 2pk (red) hooded Cobra Commander head, Dremeled out the bottom socket and hot glued it onto the neck post. I also cut off that BIG sword sheath from the yellow belt (boy was he overcompensating for something or what?!). Lastly, I swapped out the hands for some DG blue Cobra hands for better articulation. Last, but not least, below is a little sneak peek into a project that I've been working on (highly inspired by HissHissFangFang's custom Cobra project) - the custom "Viper Blue Shirt Legion." A few of these customs have been seen before, but have been slightly tweaked to make them better. Stay Tuned for More!! And as always, Comments, Critiques, and Questions greatly appreciated and encouraged!! Jason

Thanks! I think that it's easy customs like this (with the exception of Dremeling the neck socket to fit the neck post) that demonstrate that Hasbro has plenty of cool parts to put together "ultimate" action figures.

Alright, getting back into the swing of things since the first of the year (if you haven't seen my "Blue Shirt Legion" thread, check it out http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...rt-legion.html.
Anyway, back to the CLASS OF 1984 characters - 1984 "tan" Clutch. This guy represents a re-paint of the 1983 "green" Clutch and was packaged with a re-painted/variant VAMP Mark 2. This recipe has been produced by several other customizers. For mine, though, I wanted the shoulder holster to have the strap around the vest. I used the "Trooper" head because it is slightly bigger than the 25th Clutch head and it looks meaner than the "Ranger" head. However, I wish at some point Marauders would produce the "Trooper" head in flesh tone plastic rather than painting the flesh tone. I like the "cloth cover" look of Bazooka's helmet, but if and when Marauders releases a tan, Marine 8-pt cover, that will be Clutch's headgear of choice. In my Joe-verse, Clutch is a Marine. Custom recipe is listed in the pics. As always comments, critiques, and questions are welcome and encouraged! Thanks for looking. Jason |

Nice job! It's nice to look over this thread again. Such good ideas, Clutch included.
