While I'm not the biggest fan of bright colours on my Joes, I found the metallic blue on black palette of the prototype Pursuit of Cobra Arctic Snake Eyes quite striking, and was bitterly disappointed when the figure was released in black and greyish lavender instead. With that in mind, I was looking forward to the repaint/release of the figure with the Ghost Hawk vehicle for the 50th Anniversary range. Unfortunately, it was an ungainly mess that seemed to signal quite clearly that either Hasbro's design team had no idea what they were doing as far as parts selection was concerned, or they simply didn't care that the end-result of their choices looked less like Snake Eyes than a knock-kneed, giraffe-necked alien awkwardly attempting to impersonate him.
So, I set about fixing that. I decided to use the torso and head from a spare Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes to keep the colour-scheme more coherent, and swapped the arms out from the 50th figure using the sock/vice method. The finishing touch was to transplant the 50th figure's mask onto the replacement head. I'm still a little disappointed that the metallic blue isn't as vibrant as the prototype, and is missing from some of the armour-plates sculpted on to the arms and jacket overlay, but I'm pretty pleased with the results, having turned a mediocre figure into what might be my favourite Snake Eyes in my collection. |

Glad you like 'em. I think it's a pretty dramatic improvement over the original.
