First, about Sergeant Major Duncan, I am a big fan of the Iron Grenadiers and Destro's right-hand man was long overdue to join my customs collection. The super expensive club release is a fantastic looking figure, and I would be glad to have it, but one critique I have with the IGs in the Convention Box is that they all have a ceremonial old fashioned look and while I agree most of them look great, for me, is not what the IGs are all about, for me the IGs are a hi-tech army with some good, traditions inspired, look. That's why I like this overcustomized Red Skull torso, it has an imposing look but with a more modern battle ready approach, IMHO. I also wanted Duncan to have an older looking more distinctive face, so I sculpted some sideburns and eyebrows.
Second, about the Caledonian Guard (please let me know what you think about this name). Destro commands an elite army, who will work for the highest bidders, so a big part of an IG loyalty is in the financial profit he gets. So what will keep an IG from betrayal when someone offers a higher profit margin business? Well ... the Caledonian Guard, their members are descendants from the 1st Destro vassals, well paid but that share more than the love for money with the McCullen house. The Calledonian Guard has access to the best armaments MARS have and the Sgt. Major controls a device capable of rendering any MARS weaponry inert. So betray Laird Destro and soon the Caledonian Guard will pay you a very brutal visit. Well I guess that's it.... Ah I added waist and wrist articulation to both figures to make them a little bit more poseable! |

Nice use of the Red Skull bodies! Both figures came out great!

The thicker eyebrows and mutton chops actually do a lot for the face.

Caledonian Guard makes sense for a portion of the Iron Grenadiers -
Of course I say that as a guy who plays Fifa with the Galloway Forest custom team so I'm all on board. I did a background on the McCullen name and there is some historical basis that you can find that goes back to lordships and the like. It isn't in Scotland though - the name Cullen is the predecessor(and what a joy it is to sort thru the Cullen geneology - f you glowy sparkly vampires) but you find that it was in Ireland and then there's a small branch that ends up in SW Scotland. Expected there'd be migration with only a short hop. Now if you want to go buck nutty - try to figure out the pre-1000s lineage of the name and you get lost in everything from Roman influence to Viking influence to potential shared DNA Haplogroups with the Basques. Pretty much you have your options when you want to come up with a pre-history for the McCullen clan. |
