ATTN: ALL PICTURES HAVE BEEN RE-UPLOADED STARTING ON PAGE 7, POST 62.
Hello, I'm finally getting around to making my first post on here and thought I'd start with sharing this project. I built this for my 9 year old nephew as a Christmas gift in 2014. He has always been a big military toy fanatic so I knew it would be something he'd really enjoy. I started cutting and saving scrap pieces of plywood for this a few years ago then kind put it on hold until realizing I'd better get it built before he was too old for it and his interests changed. So this is what I came up with in about a month's worth of nights & weekends between Thanksgiving to right up until Christmas morning. My focus for this project was mainly on play value, strength, and storage. The look and feel were also important. I decided on a kind of generic fort with a desert outpost theme. Nothing really high tech, but more of something that had a feel that it could have been there for many years and upgraded a little as time passed with some things left alone. Having a very destructive younger brother myself growing up, strength was always in mind while building this. Most all the walls, floor, etc were made from 3/4" or 3/8" plywood, glued and screwed together. There were some places dadoes were cut into the walls for more reinforcement which also made it easier to line things up for assembly. The overall size of it is roughly 3 x 3 feet. It's big enough for him to sit in the center of it when playing and will easily store under a twin size bed when not in use. All of the watch towers and roofs are removable to access the rooms inside. More pictures to come... Last edited by Capt OG ReadMo; 01-26-2018 at 03:23 PM.. |

That looks really cool. It reminds me of an old foreign legion outpost. I'd love to see some more pictures.
