My wife is a prospect member of our local chapter of the Gypsy Motorcycle Club. Every year, her Chapter hosts a toy run that giveaway toys to special needs children and other needy families. In conjunction with the toy run, they also hold a live auction to raise money for some of the special needs they fulfill at Christmas for needy children at our local pediatric therapy clinic and to raise funds to buy toys for the big toy giveaway. After last year's auction, I decided to make a set of GI Joe members of their motorcycle club. I initially planned to do just one "Gypsy Joe" with a bike, and it grew into the diorama below, with 4 bikers and bikes in a display case with a plaque and an accompanying certificate. The vest are cut in the Gypsy MC style and feature their actual back patch, as well as front patches taken from actual Gypsy vests. None are a direct likeness for any of the club members, but there are definite similarities.
It was my hope that this item would bring at least a few hundred dollars at the auction. The members of the club love having unique MC memorabilia, but I had no idea how much they would all want my Gypsy Joe set. I was very proud when my little custom dio ended up as the highest selling item at the auction. The winning bid was $2000! It was unbelievably gratifying to see my work be appreciated so much, and it is awesome to know that the money they raised will be going to brighten the holidays of children in need. Here are my Gypsy Joes, starting with some WIP pics and ending with the finished project.

The customs look great and the story behind them is amazing. This is in my mind what lies at the core of this hobby, bringing about joy and community. In this case I think it's truly inspiring. Thank you sir and keep rocking!

I just wish I would have remembered to get pictures of the finished individual figures before the auction!

How did you manipulate Torch's hand to flip the bird? And how did you make the vests and the water slide decals of the patches? Just curious.

I cut his fingers apart, and then glued all the other fingers down into his fist. I carefully trimmed his middle finger to get the crook out of it and make it straight.
The vests were made out of 50th Snowjob parkas that I trimmed with an exacto knife and cuticle scissors. I couldn't get a vest fro any of the casters, so I had to improvise. For the back patch, I used a hi-res graphic of the patch. The rest of the patches I took digital photos of and cropped and trimmed them.
