Damn, man... Now that I'm warily starting to explore Star Wars figures, all these sets are even more enticing!

Amazing. I will say it again, action figure makers should have you do their catalogs and display photos. You make all the figures look awesome.
A few questions, please don't feel like you need to reveal any trade secrets you don't want to. 1. I am guessing that for your domed rotunda and similar items, those are pre made newels and such, you are not turning them on a lathe? I ask, only because I have a wood lathe and enjoy using it, but have yet to make anything action figure related. 2. Knowing you have a shop, do you do most of the cutting on a band saw, or at least the cutting to get the bases of things like your wasteland buildings that have irregular bases and such, or like the ice cave? A bandsaw is the one saw I desperately think I need. 3. How do you make the stair cases? Are they cut out a single block, say a 3 by 3 or 4 by 4, or do you assemble them? thanks Empire, and like I said, if you feel like you are giving out something proprietary, don't. I am just thinking of making something like this for myself. Or trying to anyway. |

Afterwards I'll grind any surface details needed across them. I mostly use a band saw for the base cut of any irregular wall shapes and then afterwards I'll grind the simulated cracks and broken edge details and then sand smooth. I use band saws, table saws, chop saws and various sanders all together. The staircases are typically made by assembling stacked pieces. This gives you a consistent tread and riser. Sanding is the key to making it not look stacked. |
