So, http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...hunmarine.html was a big inspiration to build a vehicle out of cardboard. While waiting for the vamps to come in for the Stinger SD build, I started thinking about the direction the comic I am making with it is going. I decided I wanted a delivery truck to show up bringing parts and such for the build in the comic. I had nothing laying around that could be easily modified and nothing that fit the scale and my budget at stores near me. So, I thought about Hunmarine's cardboard truck and decided to make the delivery truck myself. The main body is constructed of foamboard and cardboard with just glue, and tape holding it together. The wheels are off of a Mater from the movie Cars lamp that used to be in my son's room til the lamp fixture in it melted. Anything structural got glued. I gave it a coat of brushed on paint to make sure it was all sealed up good, shot it with a spray on coat of primer, then a spray on coat of paint then hand painted most details, I printed the headlights, tail lights and dash details on my ink jet and just glued them on. The "Cobra Industries" signs were printed and attached with repositionable Glue Stick so I can peel them off effortlessly and change out signs on the side. Only thing I haven't done yet is find a steering wheel for it, but it was close enough to "Finished".
The roof is removable and the back door opens and closes. You will see the lovable goofball Jim, driving this to bring parts to Rick in the comic in the near future. Last edited by matchmade; 03-05-2014 at 06:51 PM.. |

Epic! I'd love to have something like this for my cobra forces.

Thanks all! Using a repositionable glue stick I can peel these logos off and put any logo I want on there. Just have to print it out, cut it out and stick it on. Also weather it a little with chalk pastels to match the rest of the truck.

Thinking about making a forklift for the comic as well. I think I may just use the same procedure to build it, and I'll do a step by step for it if I do.

You don't, by chance, have any patterns for that, do you?

I have the side outline and front grill on a photoshop file, I traced around those to get the basic shape, then everything else was just measuring the foam board, marking it with a pencil and cutting with a very sharp box cutter. There was some trial and error but foam board is cheap.
If you want me to save the photoshop file as a PDF and email it to you I would be happy to. Just shoot me a PM with your email address. Any questions about the process I will be happy to answer as well. |
