Okay, I know he's not Joe construction or even a Joe, but he IS made from one of the scourges of the toy aisle, a year after the movie flopped big time, so I figured this was a chance to point out how you can make use of those craptastic Speed Racer figures!
This guy is actually in scale with the Alternators, which was my plastic crack prior to the 25th Joes, and he's technically the first non-TF custom I ever attempted, because he's been a year in the making... After taking a stab at making Joes and seeing how easy it was, I decided to dig back out these parts and finally finish my G1 Spike Witwicky, who has been missing from toy aisles in proper form to this day. I'm hoping we eventually get a Masterpiece Bumblebee with Spike, but who knows if that will ever happen. |

Tamiya paints, and a little bit of sculpting on the shirt pockets and split down the front, but other than 2 Indiana Jones German boots spliced onto the legs, this is all Speed Racer.
As for the helmet, it's a Lego helmet, which I think would work for Joes too. You have to drill away the reversed "peg" inside the helmet, but it fits pretty well. Their little tools are good for Joes as well. A tad Playskool, but still decent enough. By the way, Speed Racer helmets have a visor that fit perfectly on Joe helmets, so if you find some clearanced Speeds for cheap, snatch those suckers up... They're good for something. Not much, but something. |

Helmets in question:
Tools: And good bases for Daniel, Spike, and Sparkplug (Sparky's a hybrid of 2 characters' parts, and I need to sand down his shirt to a t-shirt): |

Here's the start of Sparkplug, but like I said, he's going to need some sanding work before I get to the painting stage:

Malevolous job! I have wanted a Spike action figure for years. Yours looks really inspiring and a damn smart use of parts. Thanks for the info on the helmets too.

Yeah, the helmet visors make good replacements for Joe visors that are missing, and I honestly prefer them, because they're curved with actual "lenses" for each eye, instead of a straight clear bar. |
