The year was 1964, America was thrust into a war which had divided the nation. Young Americans fighting in a war across the world in a foreign land. Fathers, brothers, nephews and sons, battling in a war that most Americans were either protesting against or in support of our right to defend against a Communistic government.
During this time a small toy company decided to honor our fighting American heroes and give young boys a play item that would allow them to simulate victorious battles. Unlike doll designed for young girls, this new toy was to be known as an Action Figure. Fully possible and designed for numerous playable positions. Now 50 years later that toy brand is still growing strong and has spawned numerous toys, comics, cartoons, and films. To honor the origin of the GI Joe brand, have created a custom figure of a classic image of an American soldier from the Vietnam War. I tried to give this custom everything that was traditional with the American GI.

This is awesome! Hasbro should of made some 12inch retro figures as a nod to the original fighting man (..these could still be in the works; I don't know) or something like this! This is something I would totally buy if I seen in the store! This is front page worthy! Great job!

That's an absolutely fantastic figure - a shame that there's no sign that Hasbro will produce something similar for the 50th anniversary, 12-inch or otherwise.
One little historical quibble: GI Joe was introduced in late 1964, but the first full-fledged American combat troops didn't arrive in Vietnam until 1965. |

Thank you all for the compliments. The hardest part of this custom was coming up with the different colors of green paint. The entire paint job was done with mixing various blues and yellows. FYI, I used Folk Art Paint with an Airbrush Medium to thin. The base color was painted brown, then the entire figure was drybrushed with various shades and levels of green and the last drybrush was done with a yellow tinged green. The Eagle is not glued to the stand nor is the flag glued to the eagle.

I hope you have these figures in mass stock, because I think every poster on this thread is in need of these. Hasbro should sell these, now.

Sorry, but I can only make One Of A Kind customs. This was a one shot only. I am glad that you like it. Every one I know says that I should start my own business.
