Alright, I know everyone's done this one, but like everyone else, mine's slightly different.
Twin sis is coming soon, I just had a little accident with her. The kit is from Mad Joe, and it is awesome. Thanks, Mad Joe. Last edited by Mandingo Rex; 09-17-2010 at 02:35 AM.. |

Thanks man. I tried to do a little something different, but like all my customs, I basically do my research and build on the work of those before me, and once I've decided on my "ultimate" recipe for what I want, I build it.
Zandar's a semi-popular custom, but after I saw Mad Joe's kit, I had to make him. I hate painting large areas too, so this one actually has as little paint as possible. He's pretty "play" ready, as the joints are mostly durable and not painted. That Storm Shadow works perfectly for Zandar, the hard part was matching the off-white on TOP of Zartan's dark pants for the lower torso. I decided to go with the weathered look because I dug the 5-pack/HoH Zartan's gear so much better that way, so my Zartan, Zandar and (coming soon) Zarana now all match when side-by-side. |

I used Viper boots for Zarana, so I didn't want them to be wearing the same boots. I felt that the SS boots and legs were almost perfect. The weathering on the boots looks terrible in the pics, due to the flash, but in person they look like weathered leather/armor. As much as I love Mad Joe's kit, I decided to go with the Zartan upper arms so that my Zarana, Zandar and Zartan all matched. I'm going to use the Zandar shoulder pads on my Thrasher custom, I believe, so they'll go to use. |

i have not updated mine yet...i have so many WIPs its silly...i just haven't had the motivation to work on them lately, mostly cause i've been so busy with regular ole life that when i get a minute to breath, the last thing i want to do is concentrate...
anyway, the weathering looks so good, even in the pics here...i plan to use the Zartan uppers too, but i still haven't happened across one...and i do have those SS legs so i think i will end up using them, they look so great...also, i never got his classic gear, but yours and ultras look so good with it that i think i may have to hunt it down... BTW, can't wait to see your take on Thrasher... |

That came out great man! Awesome job! I've been meaning to make a Zandar. Maybe after I finish my Cover Girl.

BTW, can't wait to see your take on Thrasher... Go for the gear, you can find it pretty cheap on eBay. I got mine for like $2 shipped (shipping was half the cost). I've found that if you cut off the + points, and leave the post in the center of the OG back pegs, that generally will make them fit the 25th figs. Sometimes you need to sheer off the peg and add a new one, which is slightly tougher. Add some paint too, the OG ones look silly otherwise without things such as the arrows painted. Thrasher's based off CobraCollector's design, with some parts swaps. I'm painting/sculpting some small details now, but I have everything but the lower arms... Got the head off a Star Wars dude. May have to make a purchase or two to get the lower arms, which I'm trying not to do, or use some "temp" arms and get him 100% right later. |
