I was talking to the guy at the local hobby shop and he was telling me about a floor wax that he uses to get paint to adhere better to certain types of plastic. I tried it tonight and it worked just fine. Nothing was chipped or cracking. It's called Pledge Future wax by Johnson and Johnson. It's a clear bottle with a blue cap, and it has a picture of an atom on it. I bought it at Wal Mart in the cleaning supplies aisle. So far I've used it on a Corps tank that I am spray painting. I poured a little into a cup and used a brush to apply it. I thought it was very useful and wanted to pass it along.

We need pics man.
I have a bad feeling that it would build up and would fill in some of the finer details on the sculpts. Not so bad for a general repaint but i like dry brushing, and the finer details are needed to get the right effect.

I like that link....I figured that it was posted somewhere since it is so useful.
here's the tank I'm working on. I like to keep a uniform color on all my cobra customs. I still have to paint the treads an some detail work and add a few more stickers...but it's close. This is as far as I got with it today. i'l have it finished tomorrow hopefully Last edited by Redredly; 08-10-2009 at 02:31 PM.. |

This is a really stupid question, but do you use it as a sealant after painting, or a base to paint on to? Or would it even be possible to mix paint with it, then paint it on?

I use mine prior to painting. I brush it on lightly and there is little to no signs of the brush I used...it still looks wet when it dries and it's a little tacky. I've seen where others have mixed it, though I personally have never tried. I use a clear coat finish that dries to a flat luster for finishing. The wax works great for me getting the white primer paint to adhere better...that's where I was getting most of my chipping and cracking issues. I've opted to use a basic spray paint primer and with the wax, I haven't had any problems.
check out the link that The Trans Torture left. it shows some mixture formulas Paints: All You Wanted To Know About Future Finish - TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards |

I've been using it a lot lately for my customs (check my pre-Cobra Wild Weasel and my ARAH Flint in Cobra uniform) I've been mixing mine with my paints, and it clearly provides several advantages.
1° it thins the paint nicely, making for nice even and smooth paint applications on the figure 2° when it dries it tends to stretch a bit through all the recesses, hence preventing thick paint blots from forming (although it mostly depends on how you mix it in the first place, and the quantity you apply with the brush) 3° it gives a smooth and slightly glossy finish on some paints, and I've found it prevents paint chips quite nicely I can only recommend it. |
