Heythere!
I'm new to GI Joe and customizing in general (sort of). I've recently got a 25th Scarlett figure that I was trying to remove the lower arms off using the boil and pop method, however (even when pulling gently) the peg didnt pop out. Instead the soft plastic afixed to it started to stretch so I stopped straight away. Now the elbow joint is really loose and I was wondering if there's a way to tighten it? I boiled it again and let it set while squeezing the soft plastic shut, and it's only slightly improved. Any suggestiong would be really appreciated, thanks! |

Use a hairdryer. It is safer.

cold water helps make it solid again
and a tip to use is that u have to boil the part but u have to cool it a lil bit as well so its not soft enuff to break its tricky sumtimes but if u take ur time and get it at the right temp it will work fine if its to hot its not good

I've never tried to B&P the small scale. It works perfect for Sigma's.I just take mine to the sink for about 10 sec and haven't had a problem yet.

I generally don't immerse smaller figures in boiling water. When it comes to the smaller figures, I find it sufficient to put them under a stream of hot running water from the faucet for about 10 seconds or so.
Not sure how you can fix the stretched out and loose elbow on your figure, though. My off-hand suggestion would be to take the forearm all the way out, cut off the excess peg length contributed by the stretching (remove a portion halfway up the length of the peg) and then reattach the peg "head" with some Fixit or super glue. You'll need to be able to see the proper peg length for comparison though, which would require popping out the other forearm. Don't hold me to this solution, though, as I've never tried reattaching pegs before and I don't know how well they'll work afterwards. |

Thanks for the suggestions folks.
I used the hairdryer first and that was having the same effect, but I stopped earlier incase it ended up ripping the plastic. As for the loose elbow, it's not the peg itself that's stretched, its the lower arm where it's attatched to the elbow. The soft palstic in the joint is now slightly larger and as such, looser. Ah well, guess ya learn from your mistakes. Thanks again for the help everyone! |

One thing to remember when boiling and popping, or hairdryer and popping is it's best to boil the part that the joint plugs into. So for you, you'd want to boil or hair dryer the upper arm. This makes the "female" part of the joint nice and soft(insert dirty joke here). You also have to make sure it's soft enough. Most people get it warm and instantly start pulling, but I found that it's a lot easier if you make sure it's "HOT"
For your stretched arm, what I'd recommend is get a cup of water and boil it for a good 4 mins in the microwave. Dunk the arm in there for a good min. and then take it out and see if it goes back to it's original shape. Then maybe run it under cold water to let it set. After it sets and is in it's original shape, try to boil the water again for maybe another 2 mins in the microwave and then redunk the arm in and then pull it out of the socket. Normally you wouldn't have to do it this many times. But with the condition you say your arm is in, if you were to just boil it and then try to pull it out, you might risk ripping the joint. Hope that helps... just remember it's always better to go hotter, than it is just plain warm. You're not gonna melt it just dunking it in water for a min or so. It's easier to ruin a figure by not getting it hot enough than it is by getting it too hot.. ;) |

Well unfortunately it seems this figure is a defect or something because about an hour ago I moved the leg and the plastic disk in the knee joint broke!
Ah well, that's some sound advice anyway. I'll keep it in mind next for next time. This'll make good fodder for now. Thanks |
