He originally started as an LBC, with minimal paint. Like yojoe300, I was inspired to make functional pouches by Obi-Shinobi's Snake Eyes. I didn't have any of that Lego sail fabric, so I tried making them out of black vinyl tape. He was finished, untill I saw yojoe300's team, and I realized that he probably ought to have some easily accessed clips for his rifle. I'm still not sure about his night vision gear. I might yet replace it with more conventional looking goggles, with a strap.

Frag grenade from Marauder. It relaces the tiny little outdated one the webgear originally had molded in.
The idea was to make a simply constructed (easily replaceable) machete, that could also be used as a weapon or an entrenching tool, if the situation required. |

It took me a while to figure out how to make a scabbard, that wouldn't let the machete rattle around. The obvious finally hit me, that the gaurd could be held, to stabilize the blade.
Removeable beret, cut from a Falcon head. And, I always make the holsters functional. M1911 by Marauder. Body is a comic pack Hawk. The head is from a Cobra Trooper. The machete was scratchbuilt from sheet styrene, and black thread. The pouches are black vinyl tape. (electrical tape) Most of them have a bit of thin sheet styrene on the backs of the tabs, to help them stay shut. The ammo pouches just have a second piece of tape glued to the back of the flap. The extra material is to make the tabs thick enough to fit tightly under the straps. You need the end of the tab to be thinner, so that it slips under the straps more easily. |

I'm not sure how you prepped the vinyl tape but be aware temperature change loosens the glue. Even if you use super glue, the original adhesive will loosen after awhile and separate from the adjoining vinyl or super glue. I found that out the first summer after making several customs with vinyl tape. I would fold the tape over itself with super glue but it would still loosen.
I tried using acetone to loosen the glue off before super gluing but it makes the tape thin and tacky as it starts dissolving the vinyl. I just wanted to warn because you did a very good job with it and it looks great. Personally, outside of the shine, the vinyl looks better than the micro canvas for certain parts. |
