Lets give each-other ideas on making things and customizing things for joe!
List a raw material; this can include anything: Toothpicks, bottlecaps, pencaps, cellphone parts, film canisters, toilet paper cardbard tubes, anything lying around the house, and give ideas on how to make that said thing into something for joe. Or post tutorials with your said item. Or there are two other options: Say you want to make a specific thing, but you don't know how, so another member could suggest how. Another thing, is that say you have alot of bottlecaps, or anything, etc, other members could could suggest what to do with them. I'll go first. You can make anything out of packing styrofoam, of course you all know that already but here are some things I have made. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...stank-dio.html http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-pictures.html

Ok, this is a known tip, but...don't throw away your old PC.
The "guts" are very very useful for small details. Using the small pieces inside, you can do a lot of things: -Small bits of black wire you can do lots of sound suppressers. -there are some black little pieces at the end of some wires, those are perfect for walkie talkies. -Dynamite packs. -Smoke grenades An old mouse can be useful too, since it contains strange plastic pieces that you can use for a lot of stuff too. A broken non-lcd screen has tons of tiny stuff that look great for cutomizing or dios.. And many other things. They can be so simple as not needing paint, or complex as using big panels to do weird machinery (someone did a dio using the green panels) |

One of the best tips I read on here was to thin the paint with Window Cleaner. it works great!
Plumbers thread tape is great for masking, or just getting a certain "wrapped" look. |

There's the adhesive tape, which is flexible and comes in colours. Is good for stripes, belts, etc. It cames in many colours too. Also there's the tape made of teflon, that doesn't have have any adhesive, but it wraps and keeps thight. This one is absolutely cool, cos you can do even logos on it, the material is really thin and soft. I suppose you mean this one. |

-detergent mixed with water to soak a figure before painting.
-canvas paper, molding scrapbooking paper, and cardstock are good for making belts and slings. -Goody brand rubber hair bands (it's actually a very strong plastic) is very good in fabricating O-rings. -vaseline is good for building removeable harnesses. -vinyl tape/electrical tape can be quite useful but you need to experiment to get it to work with different glues. -I use this thin, clear plastic sheeting that was for magazine boxes for a styrene sheet replacement. It's a lot more flexible which comes in handy. |

Those little canisters the put inside of Tylenol & Aspirin to keep them dry work great to make Radioactive Canisters, Oil, Whatever.. excellent prop for that kind of thing.

Old credit cards and gift cards make great plastic replacement panels. I recently used one to build a replacement front panel on a warthog.
Also the plastic frames that hold the pieces of model kits make great replacement parts. You can fix snapped backpack pegs with them easily. I also second the scavenging of pcs for materials along with other broken electronics. You can find a lot of great stuff in them. Just avoid TVs and monitors since their capacitors can stop your heart if they shock you, even after weeks of being unplugged. Look at all the fodder and diorama pieces I collected from an old VCR and a PC. |

I dont have a pic of this, but for those of you that take apart your figures completely and look for a way to hang parts when priming or clear coating them. I constructed a miniture-like clothes line out of some 550 cord "guts", or 1/16 inch thick string, two bamboo skewers and some of that plastic foam padding that comes in most large boxes. I alos tied knots along the string so the parts won't slide and make contact with other parts on teh line. I pushed the skewers into the plastic foam, and cut a slot at the top of the skewers so I can remove the string and run it through the lower leg knee holes, gear, figures hands, etc... so they will hang while I clear coat them. Doing this keeps the clear coat form coming in contact with other objects and makes for a clean looking application.
