it dont work well wit' all plastics. an make sure whatever you dye has to be elevated in mid water an not touch the bottom. i got the tute for you if you need it, not sure if you seen it. but like the one dude just said its in joe customs in wiki . thats where i learned this. an i dont think acetone would be a smart idea! as far as i know it's flamable. not smart! so dont even try it!

Remember that if your going for a color other than black, soak the soft plastic parts last. The hard plastic (torso, upper legs) take a lot longer to absorb the color so do them first and when you get the shade you want take them out and put in the soft plastic. These parts change color quick so I recommend checking them every minute or so to see if they're the same shade as the hard plastic parts.
Also remember that unless your doing white pieces the plastic or using black dye, the pieces wont turn the exact color of the dye rather mix with it. Example is a blue Cobra Commander I did last year, I soaked him in yellow dye and he came out a nice shade of green. Yellow+blue=green. I also did a Crimson Guard in yellow and he came out a very dark purple. Hope this helps. |

yeah man you can just scratch trying to dye a 2 foot pc of plastic. that's big. an like we said harder plastics are harder to dye. an most likely your 2 ft pc is a hard plastic. i remember someone postin they did a ram an it came out bad, cus the plastic was different!. you will def need a tub an big fire. an note too that this dye will ruin anything in your kitchen, so if you're married you can scratch that idea too. if you are single an the shits yours then ruin it all that would be your progative.. an no one to yell at you for doin so! maby try a charcoal grill outside an big galvanized tub , if that could even take the heat! dont really have 2 much solutions for a 2 ft pc of plastic lol. thats big!

I bought a custom Shadow Crimson Guard off e-bay, it was done with the RIT dye in black...it worked out good and the figure looks great....so rule of thumb, if you are going to darken the plastic to black green or navy it should work!

sounds like you want to do a vehicle, why not use krylon spray paint, some of that stuff bonds to plastic, and will never come off.. ;)

I usually do. I wanted to try something different. Still, I'm glad I asked about it. Sounds like a good way to get figure joints done.

it's a great way, compared to painting an trimming em. but there are down sides to this. like mentioned it can warp, an the dye will ruin anything like counters an stuff,,if you gotta garage or shed that has an electric outlet, maby you'd wanna use a crock pot! i been through the thoughts of dying. an i came up wit' the solution to just by a crock pot an use it just for that, an i can use it outside.
