No idea. I have plans to card a custom Slaughter I did, and I have custom artwork, but I have yet to even take the stickiness of the back of a bubble, because I have a bubble to yet select...
I'm assuming the plastic bubble back can be cleaned with GooGone or something similar, to get the glue and paper off... Once it's been peeled clean from the card, that is. A not-quite-perfect solution would require 2 sets of cards, which could get pricey... Essentially, you take an Xacto, cut off the clear plastic bubble from one, leaving the part of the bubble attached the card ON the card... Then, you take the second plastic bubble that you peeled off, and once cleaning the backside, glue THAT on top of the other one, and match up the plastic bubbles... The only problems I see, are that it would make your base layer a TAD thick (as it would be a full bubble on top of the edging of the other bubble), and requires you to buy 2 sets of the carded figures... But if you're going to all that trouble, it wouldn't be worth recarding to return to stores, now would it? |

you could just hang out at wal-mart and ask the guys returing stuff, how they did it? mwwhahaha
steam doesnt work, cardbord and water dont mix... your best bet (i think) is repairing the card, and cleaning the bubble before putting it back together, are you going to make the card ''clothing'' match the figure?...i would like to see how this turns out, if you can pull it off.........goodluck |

I tried a few time to remove the Bubbles from the cards without great success. The best method i know is doing this with 2 cards.
I mean, cut the first bubble with a sharp knife, after that, heat and remove the glue residue on the card with a heat gun. This way, you can have a clean cardback. If you want to recard a figure, open another figure but don't cut the bubble, just open it. After, you can try to remove glue residu from the bubble and now, you have your bubble. The best way is to make test on army builder or easy to find figures. I tried to remove the bubble without damage from the cards with a heat gun but each time i overheat and scrap the bubble. This is why it's better to do this in 2 steps with 2 cards. Hope you will have more success than me! |

So, I thought I would cut open my scarlett, swap the head with a loose one and put her back in to hang back on my wall. Where as I doubt scarlett going up in value, so selling isn't my worry. I would rather have an ugly scarlett on great card, then cool head scarlett with beat down ugly card. All of my stuff is moc hanging up, so just trying to straddle the fence on customizing/keeping moc. So, I just would like some info.
I take an exacto and slice both sides of the bubble, the trick is to start slicing from about 1 and 1/4 of an inch from the top. (you may have to adjust that to 1 inch but try not to go less than an inch or the bubble won't stay as close to the card) Slice all the way down and the entire bottom of the bubble. You should be left with the top 2 corners and all of the top of the bubble intact. Gently pull the bottom of the bubble away from the card only enough to pull out the inner tray/figure. Goes back in just as easily as it was coming out. Keep your blade as close to the card as possible, be careful of the blade tip inside the bubble(the figure and card back can be damaged). Just recently I have recarded a Stinger Driver on a blank Canadian card using a wave 2 trooper as an inner tray. Also returned an empty inner tray with the trooper head in the original spot back into a Cobra Flint card. This custom BAT was recarded using the method described above, perfect for your headswap/Scarlett idea.

Thanks all, especially Trans. Thats exactly what I'm trying to do. What I was thinking though, was cutting only the bottom, not the entire bubble. That way I could just pull out the tray, do the figure work, slide tray back in and either, reglue it, or use clear packing tape over the slits. Since I'm just hanging it next to all the other figures in a card to card cubelike design, shouldn't be too noticeable.

If you're putting it us against a wall, what about just making a slice in the back of the cardboard behind the figure, maybe a big upside down "U" shape along the edge of the bubble, bend it back a little pull out the tray, change your Scarlet, then slide the tray back in, if the card isn't creased when you bend it, it should pretty much go back in place, maybe a small piece of scotch tape to hold it a little better, and if it's up against a wall, shouldn't be too noticeable.. unless you rip the cardboard any...
I gotta open some figs in a little bit for some customs, if you want, I can try it and see how it looks good and later my sis is coming over to take pics for me, I can have her snap some shots and I'll post them(if it all works out okay). |

The inner tray is usually glued under the bubble on the sides, give it a try though.

I actually tried the steam method the other day and it worked for the most part.. but i got impatient and kinda burned my hand.
Doing it over a boiling pot is kinda hard, next time I try Im gonna try to do it with a vaporizer. It does a pretty good job and my card didnt bend, not that I noticed. I thot about putting a chrome silver head on destro v14 just b/c I thought it would look cooler to have him carded. but I didnt wanna run the risk of ruining the one I have now.. maybe some day |
