Nothing earth shattering here, just a couple of paint jobbers...
So with the release of the internet exclusive 7-packs last month, I've been looking for ways to set up displays... for the Winter set I've made a few extra Snow-Joes (using the Snake Eyes and Snowjob bodies) to battle the Cobra snow troops... and there will be a forthcoming Winter/Snow HISS Tank that will go perfect with them.
And for the desert set... well, the new AWE Striker (Brown Deco) fits in well with them, as do the Tiger Force Joes. But what about a vehicle for those Cobra desert troops ? Is Cobra Commander expecting his troops to just waltz through the desert without transportation ?
Having received an extra HISS Tank in my new vehicles case, I had to go to work... therefore, I created the Cobra Desert HISS :

And of course I couldn't settle for just a regular old HISS Driver... he'd stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of his desert troops, so...
Now you're probably asking yourself: 'If those Cobra troops are supposed to be in the desert... where's the dirt ? Where's the dust?'
I asked myself the same question... and after recently seeing on another board someone else's awesome custom dirty paint job on the Indiana Jones desert transport truck, I was going to go for the same exact weathered look for my HISS. But then I realized... if I were to weather this bad-boy, it'd stick out like said thumb amidst my other Joe/Cobra vehicles... all of which have a very clean, polished (toy-like) look to them (you know the look). I wanted my HISS to fit in with the rest of my vehicles, not look out of place. And since I have zero intentions to give all my Joe vehicles custom weathering jobs, I decided to try and paint it to fit in as best as possible... give it that same factory finish look as the other HISS's... I think the results came out pretty good...
I wish I had a few different stickers to put on it, but these will do for now.
Your thoughts are definitely appreciated.

Sweet. Looks great. What color paint did you use? My desert troops need one of those as well.

Looks great. I'm going to do something similar. Probably a lighter color, but the darker brown goes great with the same color on their unis.

Thanks for the good words.
For the tank, I removed the stickers carefully, disassembled it and spray painted it all. The gun turret and treads were sprayed black (I left the internal part of the treads the metallic color it comes in). Then I masked off the cockpit, and that black back-portion of the cockpit that the canopy attaches to and sprayed the whole thing brown.
I used model paint for the spray jobs... got it at my local Hobbytown... Tamiya TS-1 Red Brown is the shade I used. And black of the same brand. Took about 2 coats... 2.5 maybe for the brown.
Oh, and make sure you give everything you're going to paint a warm, sudsy bath... then rinse them thoroughly and allow for adequate drying time. Most toys are covered in a mold releasing agent residue from the factory that makes it hard for paint to stick to it... a soapy bath and rinse will help immensely.
