Lastly.. as for decals and markings I will be using a famous Navy Squadron's markings. I wanted to go low viz vs high viz and it was a very difficult decision. BTW... hint about the markings: Ensign Jack Ernie. (The one who inspired the logo for this squadron) I'm hoping by this weekend to get paint thrown down...
So did you take the missles from BBI's 1/32 F-4 or did you scratch build them out of styrene? I'm interested in finding out how to go about scratchbuilding parts for customs. Excellent work so far man, keep us updated! |

Shin, I know YOU. We've met before. Yes I scratch built the missiles and the pylons...and I suspected that it would not be long until you chimed in. I too am a big fan of the Skull and Crossbones and Macross because of it's borrowing of the same logo. I was the person who built that F/A-18 mod a lonnng time ago. Well the cat is out of the bag, it is High Visibility I'm going with. In fact I have a choice between the standard version which I really want and the X-MAS Holiday version of 1996 where they added the Santa Hat and used cross Candy Canes for fun. I have another Striker so I may use the XMAS one on that or do VF-41 Black Aces Squadron Markings... Good to see you again, I can't wait to get this thing operational!

R I think the 80's high viz with huge roundels would be more striking than the Xmas skull. The 80's one has more contrast and is more striking. Quote:

Also, how did you go about making the custom parts? I've seen styrene sheets at hobbytown, but don't know what to do with them, I heard those are the things people use to scratch build. |

Hey Shin...
Yes, I was that person from SSHQ...I have to tell you I'm losing faith in the 1/18 companies! And yes, I get my plastics from Hobbytown and other stores that carry the styrene sheets and plastics...In my case its a lot of ghetto-engineering and seat of your pants designs... Here is the scary current update. 20 minutes ago I was getting ready to photograph the IRST nose pod and the Tailhook which has complete range of motion: 26 degrees left and right...and the up / down positioning. The Tomcat FELL and the port side tank and wing pylon broke off by the connector. It was a 3 foot drop and luckily nothing major was damaged. IT SURVIVED a decent drop test. Its a setback now because I'm currently studying the internal wing mechanism on a Funskool striker pulled from my fleet. I am working on a plan to modify the wings so they turn simultaneously and independent from the landing gear. It's now a 30 minute to an hour setback which sucks because I was really excited. Thats what I get for being stupid. They say if anything can go wrong, it will. I SAY shoot Murphy in the head with a double-tap! Good riddance. Okay now back to playing catch up. |

In addition to the standard up / down movement, it also has the 26 degree lateral movement capability:
